HVDC & FACTS Field Service Engineer

Job Description Summary
Become part of a winning team and help to deliver the Green Energy transition. We are looking for a self‑motivated service engineer in power electronics able to manage service contracts, site activities and to support/participate in commissioning of FACTS & HVDC equipment.
This is a key position in GE’s Service organisation. You will be responsible for leading the technical portion of multi‑year service contracts, supporting customers in different countries, and being part of a community of experts able to support global customers on high‑technology equipment.

Responsibilities
* Perform and lead maintenance, onsite activities, technical support on FACTS or HVDC transmission systems.
* Manage preparations for site activities in coordination with end customer.
* Perform commissioning activities on FACTS or HVDC transmission systems.
* Lead the technical portion of service contracts running over several years.
* Attend and lead customer meetings, identify solutions that meet needs.
* Knowledge and ability to carry out FACTS projects of minor renovations/upgrades.
* Support ITO team as needed during tenders for the technical part.
Technical Knowledge
* Technical knowledge and site experience on switching equipment, harmonic filters and instrumentation transformers.
* Experience on FACTS equipment (Thyristor and IGBT); knowledge of rotating machines is a plus.
* Experience on commissioning of protection relays.
* Experience troubleshooting, with the use of network recorders and/or analysers.
* Ability to resolve incidents on site and analyze logs and curves.
Abilities
* Good ability and culture in EHS, strictly applying EHS rules during site incidents or under pressure by customer.
* Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
* Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve problems.
* Ability to document, write reports, and plan site activities.
* Notions of project management.
* Management of on‑site teams.
* Excellent customer management skills, especially on site during an incident.
* Team player; ability to work in a team and share knowledge and experience with colleagues.
Required Qualifications
* Engineering degree or equivalent in power electronics.
* Demonstrated engineering background and technical understanding of power electronics.
* Experience in an equivalent position.
* In‑depth experience on drives or FACTS or HVDC equipment (valves + control + protection).
* Availability to travel up to 50% (with potential 100% site assignments during training & later during short periods).
* Fluent English, strong communication skills.
* Existing clean UK driving license.
