Our client is a highly successful and financially secure organisation, operating on a global scale with major operations across the UK, US, and Canada. Due to continued growth and investment, they are seeking an Embedded Software Team Lead / Manager to join their purpose-built facility in Tyne & Wear.
This is an excellent opportunity to lead a talented team of engineers while remaining close to technology and product development. You’ll play a key role in shaping future software strategy, mentoring engineers, and ensuring the successful delivery of innovative embedded software solutions.
The Role
Reporting into senior engineering leadership, you will manage and develop a team of five Embedded Software Engineers, providing technical guidance, performance management, coaching, and support for future recruitment activities.
Working closely with key stakeholders across the UK, US, and Canada, you will ensure projects are delivered on time, to specification, and in accordance with quality and development standards.
Key responsibilities include:
* Leading, mentoring and developing a team of Embedded Software Engineers.
* Conducting appraisals, performance reviews and personal development planning.
* Supporting recruitment and team growth initiatives.
* Driving software development activities throughout the full product lifecycle.
* Ensuring adherence to a requirements-driven V-Model development process.
* Collaborating with global engineering and project teams.
* Overseeing software quality, technical standards and project delivery.
* Supporting technical decision-making and software architecture reviews.
* Ensuring software deliverables are achieved on time and to specification.
About You
We are looking for an experienced technical leader who has a strong background in Embedded Software, Firmware or Controls Engineering and enjoys developing high-performing engineering teams.
You will ideally have:
* Proven leadership, team management and staff development experience.
* A background in Embedded Software, Firmware or Controls Engineering.
* Demonstrated ability to develop software designs that meet project cost, performance and schedule requirements.
* Expert knowledge of requirements-driven V-Model development or similar structured development methodologies.
* Strong expertise in real-time embedded software programming.
* Extensive experience using emulators, logic analysers and software debugging tools.
* Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
* Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering environments.
Desirable experience:
* Knowledge of control systems and feedback systems for power electronics applications.
