Hull Family Practice is looking for a part time (24 hours per week) qualified Pharmacy Technician to join our team of 3 Pharmacists, 1 Pharmacy Technician and 2 Pharmacy Administrators.
The successful pharmacy technician candidate will play an important role in complementing our clinical pharmacists and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
It is a requirement of the role to be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacy Technician. We are seeking a pharmacy technician preferably with previous experience of working in primary care.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will:
* Support the Clinical Pharmacists in the delivery of clinical pharmacy services
* Perform medicines improvement work to maximise safe, cost-effective best practice in prescribing under the supervision of the GP or Clinical Pharmacist
* Assist with medication safety monitoring systems (e.g. high-risk drugs)
* Liaise with clinicians and administrative staff to resolve medicine-related queries
* Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide care to our patients within care homes
* Monitor practice prescribing and adherence to practice, local and national prescribing policies
* Improve service and quality through mechanisms such as audits

We have teams of GP Partners, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technician, Physiotherapist, Practice Nurses, Health Care Assistants and a large team of administration staff including receptionists.

Job responsibilities
Main responsibilities:
To support the pharmacists and pharmacy administratorsinvolved in the preparation of repeatprescriptions and to participate in the daily preparation of repeatprescriptions in order to ensure high quality, safe and timely repeatprescribing
Understandthe science of pharmacy, basic pharmacological principles, actions and use ofdrugs
To support the pharmacists with medicines reconciliation in accordance with practice protocols andto update patients medical records / prescribing accordingly
To support the achievement of the practices prescribing Quality and Outcomes Framework targets
To contribute to the review and development of repeatprescribing protocols /StandardOperating Procedures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness ofrepeat prescribing systems
To provide advice toGPs, staff and patients in changes to prescribing in order to support theimprovement of prescribing safety, quality and cost effectiveness
To participate in medicationaudits
To assist in the appropriatemonitoring and management of prescribing the budgets and to liaise withthe medicines management team when required
To prepare evidencebased resources and information to support the implementation ofrational cost-effective prescribing
To support the Practice Based Pharmacist and Dispensary teamto provide medication reviews, patientinformation leaflets, medicine awareness
To take a proactive approach to the safe handling of prescriptions, including assessment of risk andmaking recommendations for improvement
To respond to medicationqueries from patients and staff in a professional manner referring tothe appropriate GP in accordance with practice protocols
To advise on thesourcing and safe management of medicines as appropriate
To ensure confidentiality of information (written/oral orelectronic) is preserved at all times whether at or away from work
To follow practice procedures to ensure that CaldicottGuardian and Security requirements are met at all times

Assist the practice with the appropriate monitoring andmanagement of their prescribing budgets.

To help plan, developand support the introduction of new working processes within the practice tooptimise the quality of prescribing

Communication:

A folder of CPD is available to the Manager (ifrelevant) at the time of Appraisal, as a topic for discussion

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacy Technician.
* Qualification or certificates in Dispensing
* BTEC/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Experience
* Experience of working in primary care
* Experience of dealing with the public or patients
