Hull Family Practice is looking for a part time (24 hours per week) qualified Pharmacy Technician to join our team of 3 Pharmacists, 1 Pharmacy Technician and 2 Pharmacy Administrators.

The successful pharmacy technician candidate will play an important role in complementing our clinical pharmacists and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.

It is a requirement of the role to be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacy Technician. We are seeking a pharmacy technician preferably with previous experience of working in primary care.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

* Support the Clinical Pharmacists in the delivery of clinical pharmacy services
* Perform medicines improvement work to maximise safe, cost-effective best practice in prescribing under the supervision of the GP or Clinical Pharmacist
* Assist with medication safety monitoring systems (e.g. high-risk drugs)
* Liaise with clinicians and administrative staff to resolve medicine-related queries
* Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide care to our patients within care homes
* Monitor practice prescribing and adherence to practice, local and national prescribing policies
* Improve service and quality through mechanisms such as audits


About us

We are a large friendly training practice serving 38,000 patients within the East Hull area. We have teams of GP Partners, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technician, Physiotherapist, Practice Nurses, Health Care Assistants and a large team of administration staff including receptionists.

We are based in modern, purpose built health Centres that we share with a number of other NHS services and we believe in providing all our patients with the best possible experience and health outcomes.

The practice's also has a background of supporting training, both internally and externally.


Job responsibilities

Main responsibilities:

To support the pharmacists and pharmacy administratorsinvolved in the preparation of repeatprescriptions and to participate in the daily preparation of repeatprescriptions in order to ensure high quality, safe and timely repeatprescribing

Understandthe science of pharmacy, basic pharmacological principles, actions and use ofdrugs

To support the pharmacists with medicines reconciliation in accordance with practice protocols andto update patients medical records / prescribing accordingly

To support the achievement of the practices prescribing Quality and Outcomes Framework targets

To contribute to the review and development of repeatprescribing protocols /StandardOperating Procedures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness ofrepeat prescribing systems

To provide advice toGPs, staff and patients in changes to prescribing in order to support theimprovement of prescribing safety, quality and cost effectiveness

To participate in medicationaudits

To assist in the appropriatemonitoring and management of prescribing the budgets and to liaise withthe medicines management team when required

To prepare evidencebased resources and information to support the implementation ofrational cost-effective prescribing

To support the Practice Based Pharmacist and Dispensary teamto provide medication reviews, patientinformation leaflets, medicine awareness

To take a proactive approach to the safe handling of prescriptions, including assessment of risk andmaking recommendations for improvement

To respond to medicationqueries from patients and staff in a professional manner referring tothe appropriate GP in accordance with practice protocols

To advise on thesourcing and safe management of medicines as appropriate

To ensure confidentiality of information (written/oral orelectronic) is preserved at all times whether at or away from work

To follow practice procedures to ensure that CaldicottGuardian and Security requirements are met at all times

Followprocedures to ensure compliance with the Data Protection Bill 2017 and theGeneral Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

To ensure that the safeguarding of patients is a paramount concern and that anysuspicions regarding patients safety are raised with the appropriate authority

To follow procedures to ensure compliance with the DataProtection Act 1998

Understandthe limits of their accountability, authority and responsibility

To follow all practice protocols concerned with themaintenance of ethical practice

To support and participate in initiatives to ensure a safeand healthy environment for all practice users. This includes followingprocedures to ensure the control of potential hazards to health and safety

To respect, support, contribute to and take personalresponsibility for implementing commitment to Diversity and Equality ofOpportunity

To contribute to a culture of continuous improvement

To deal with complaints promptly and according toorganisational protocol

To perform duties to standards required by the practice inaccordance with quality assurance

Standard of Performance

Performance will be satisfactory when the following takesplace:

To provide medication review services to patients and to helpto deliver care plans that maximise cost-effective prescribing and improve thequality of patient care.

Assist the practice with the appropriate monitoring andmanagement of their prescribing budgets.

To prepare evidence based resources and information tosupport the medicine management team and all other relevant healthprofessionals in the implementation of rational cost-effective prescribing.

To help plan, developand support the introduction of new working processes within the practice tooptimise the quality of prescribing

To carry out tasks effectively, in an organized manner, withproper attention to detail and at a pace appropriate to the level of business.Prioritising and completing tasks within agreed deadlines.

Communication:

All contact with external parties should be recorded -accuracy is paramount.

It is expected that you should be helpful and courteous atall times and should adhere to the confidentiality clauses in your contract.

Performance will besatisfactory when the following take place:

Standard Operating Procedures are used at all times

All messages to be sent electronically toclinicians as soon as received. Detailsof contacts name, place of work, contact telephone number, and nature of theenquiry should be logged.

Liaising with all members of the practice and associatedorganisations and passing messages to the relevant person concerned as perpractice protocol

To immediately bring to the attention of the management team,any concerns and complaints from patients, carers and other Healthcareprofessionals

Patients, carers and all healthcareprofessionals are always treated with care, respect and courtesy

Confidentiality is observed at all times, aslaid down in your Contract of Employment and staff handbook.

All relevant steps are taken to sign off thecomputer whenever the workstation is left unattended.

All prescription requests are kept confidential.

A folder of CPD is available to the Manager (ifrelevant) at the time of Appraisal, as a topic for discussion

An annual appraisal is undertaken with theManager

An active part is taken in significant eventauditing, to include the raising of significant events, investigation of themand implementation of any changes made in the light of any investigations.

Regularly evaluate whether your learningobjectives have been met and identify further development and training needs

Data management and computerliteracy

SMART cards are used in accordance with Practicepolicy for all working sessions.

* All opportunities aretaken to improve computer skills, both in-post and in dedicated trainingsessions

Upholdingquality

Alerting other team members to issues of quality and risk

Assessing own performance and taking accountability for ownactions, either directly or under supervision

Contributing to the effectiveness of the team by reflectingon own and team activities and making suggestions on ways to improve andenhance the teams performance

Working effectively with individuals in other agencies tomeet patients needs

Effectively managing own time, workload and resources.

To carry out other duties that are required within the roleas it evolves within the development of the organisation

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacy Technician.
* Qualification or certificates in Dispensing
* BTEC/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Pharmaceutical Sciences.


Experience

* Experience of working in primary care
* Experience of dealing with the public or patients
