What is an Advanced Teaching Assistant? An Advanced Teaching Assistant (ATA) provides high-level support in the classroom, often taking a lead in small groups or individual learning programmes, supporting pupils with additional needs, and sometimes covering elements of teaching under a teacher’s guidance. ATAs play a key role in helping pupils reach their full potential and maintaining a positive, well-managed learning environment. The role As an ATA, you will: Lead small groups or one-to-one interventions for pupils needing extra support Assist with planning and delivering lessons under teacher guidance Support pupils with special educational needs or additional learning requirements Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teachers Help maintain a positive and well-organised classroom environment Adapt confidently to different year groups and school settings Follow safeguarding procedures and school policies You choose the days you work and the schools you attend.
