3906 - Locum Specialist (working at GP level)
Thisis a very exciting opportunity to work within a multi-disciplinary team in the EmergencyDepartment, supporting Barnsley patients with acute primary care presentations.
We are lookingfor high quality primary care doctors who can manage acute presentations andenjoy the vibrant environment of an Emergency Department and relish theopportunity to engage with other clinicians with different skill sets to ourmutual benefit.
We are lookingto learn from one another to achieve better outcomes for our patients.
There is highdemand for this service and so it is a fantastic opportunity for the successfulapplicant to work with the Emergency Department Clinical Lead and Matron todevelop this service and ensure continuous quality improvement.
We are looking to cover a 7 days a week service the shift patterns available are Monday, Saturday and Sunday 12:00-22:00 and Friday, Saturday and Sunday 08:00-18:00.
Main duties of the job
Themajority of the patients in the Primary Care stream present with illnesseswhich would be very familiar to a General Practitioner. Our patients include adults and children ofall ages.
Ifyou enjoy managing patients who are at acute end of the normal spectrum ofPrimary Care presentations then this is the job for you.
Youwill regularly interact with the rest of the clinical team in ED and we welcomediscussion within the team when we looking to find the best way to manage eachpatient.
Youwill have access to basic diagnostics (e.g. urinalysis), although we wouldexpect the majority of our Primary Care patients would be managed without bloodtests or radiology.
Weare looking for individuals whose key strengths are their clinical acumen anddecision making.
However,if after your assessment, you feel diagnostics are required there will be aseamless transfer to other clinicians within the multi-disciplinary team. Youwill be part of that team.
Youwill also attend regular meetings with the ED Leads to discuss and shape ourPrimary Care service. So if you feel you can help us further develop thisservice you should apply.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* MRCGP or equivalent.
* Full GMC registration, and on the specialist register.
Experience
* 12 years post qualification experience, 6 years of which must be in either General Practice or Emergency Medicine.
* Experience in the management of a broad primary care caseload.
* Experience in a specialist interest that will complement those of other staff.
Management and Training
* Evidence of effective teaching to medical students and doctors in training and to the multidisciplinary team.
* Evidence of formal management training.
Skills and Abilities
* Willingness and ability to fulfill the key elements of the job description.
* Possession of the clinical skills required to perform the job.
* Ability to cope with the demands of a DGH based Consultant.
* Ability to lead and develop the service.
* Ability to develop effective working relationships on an individual, multi-professional and team basis with all levels of staff.
* Ability and evidence of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
