Endoscopy Staff Nurse

This role is offered on a permanent basis. The hours are part-time, 24 hours per week.
The role of the Registered Nurse is to support the efficient running of the Endoscopy Department to enable patients to receive care closer to home from visiting Endoscopists including Nurse Endoscopists. Staff will help to promote the health and well‑being of the service users, sign‑posting them to additional services and providers for health and social care.
Main duties of the job
* Deliver a safe and effective patient‑centred care to our service users, their families and carers.
* Ensure the clinical care requirements of patients are communicated effectively.
* Lead the team in the overall running of the department in the absence of a Senior Sister on duty, ensuring safe staffing levels – including informing senior staff and managers of any problems and providing solutions.
* Participate in Endoscopy lists covering various roles when competent as required.
* Undertake admissions, including nurse consent and cannulation when competent.
* Be competent in the administration of medications as prescribed by consultants or nurse endoscopists.
* Ensure patient records are kept up to date, accurate and in line with the Trust’s Record‑Keeping Policy.
* Undertake Link Worker training and act as a Link worker for a specific role (e.g., Basic Life Support, Infection Control, Fire, etc.) and support HCAs training.
* Undertake clinical audits to identify and improve patient safety and care.
* Undertake patient satisfaction surveys.
* Assist endoscopists during procedures, including taking biopsies and removing simple polyps when competent.
Job responsibilities
* Support the Senior Sister/Sister in the appraisal of newly qualified staff and non‑qualified staff.
* Develop knowledge and expertise on people‑management (Human Resources) policies to support their own development.
* Understand budgetary constraints and controls in relation to staff development.
* Ensure the safe use, inspection, maintenance and security of all goods and equipment, maintaining appropriate stock levels.
* Review and appraise processes and policies to allow for continuous improvement within the Trust, ensuring delivery of best practice.
* Carry out individual risk assessments and contribute to the management of risks in line with Trust policy.
* Implement and conform to Trust and departmental infection‑control policies and procedures.
* Take responsibility for own development, keeping knowledge and skills up to date using clinical audit to improve standards of patient care and reflective practice in preparation for ongoing re‑validation.
* Work in other departments or hospitals to ensure levels of safe staffing are maintained across the Trust.
* Ensure the privacy, dignity and safety of people is maintained at all times.
* Recognise changing priorities, seeking advice and guidance from the Registered Nurse or other registered care professionals as appropriate.
* Report back and share information with registered nurses on the condition, behaviour, activity and responses of people.
* Recognise issues relating to safeguarding vulnerable children and adults and report any problems or raise concerns to the appropriate registered care professionals.
* Assist in the assessment of and contribute to the management of risk across several areas within the environment where care is delivered.
* Assist in implementing appropriate actions to meet the specific physical, emotional, psychological, social, cultural and spiritual needs of individuals.
Person Specification
* NMC registration
* Evidence of ongoing development
* Work under pressure to meet service delivery
* Driver licence and use of a car
* Cannulation and nurse‑led consent
* Previous work in ambulatory care
* Mentorship of students and junior staff
* Ability to work as part of a team
