Main duties of the job

Thepost holder will play an essential role supporting the corporate educationteam, and clinical service units by facilitating education, training andpractice development to establish a high standard of education for allunregistered healthcare practitioners and learners.

Thepost holder will be responsible for the organisation and delivery of practicaland theoretical training programmes especially the New to Care preparationprogramme and the virtual pathway for the care certificate programme, whilesupporting attainment of competencies in the clinical area.

Thejob holder will support the development of interdisciplinary and crossorganisational working to ensure the sharing of good practice and delivery ofhigh quality, effective and efficient care, and leading and promoting audit,presenting findings and making suggestions to service delivery.

Thepost holder will be able to thrive in a challenging and fast paced environment,be comfortable with continual improvement and change management processes.


KeyResponsibilities

* The ability to work clinically, havea strong clinical background and can support ED during wintertime
* Support the recruitment cycles and beconfident with leading interviews
* Deliver and facilitate the New toCare preparation programme
* Support the virtual pathway for theCare Certificate
* Have a strong working knowledge ofthe Care Certificate and the standards within it
* Provide practice-based support andpastoral support

Job responsibilities

Thepost holder will help to champion and co-ordinate the development of theClinical Support Workers (CSWs) who are new to the trust and to the careenvironment. This will include supporting the delivery of the Care CertificateProgramme and other clinical educational programmes to support learningopportunities linked to the requirement of the CSW role. The post holder willbe able to prioritise duties with the support of the education practitioner,and be accountable for their own actions and demonstrate initiative and abilityto work autonomously with minimal direct supervision, but must work within their level of competence.

Thepost holder will, in the first instance, implement and support the delivery ofeducational programmes across Leeds Teaching Hospitals, such as the CareCertificate programme and the New to Care Preparation Programme. This willinclude supporting CSWs in clinical areas by assessing their competence toachieve a high level of clinical care though the practice and attainment of thecare certificate performance document.

Therewill also be the opportunity to be involved in other workforce and educationprojects within the team to shape the future of our workforce.


PRINCIPALDUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

* Deliver the New to Care Preparation programme every month, Identifying andimplementing support mechanisms to be put in place for individuals andidentified groups of learners to ensure maximum opportunity to succeed.
* Organise and lead on the interview process for New to Care candidates andunderstand values based inclusive recruitment.
* To support with assessment planning, observation of work activities, assessmentof underpinning knowledge, recording judgements and portfolio building - whichcan be electronic and paper based.
* Undertake clinical assessments on CSWs performance identifying and creatingaction support plans as required
* Inspiring and motivating Learners to achieve
* Support and assess Clinical Support Workers (CSW) in clinical areas to achievea high level of clinical care in line with the Care Certificate performancedocument.
* Promoting the use of education and training in the development of a skilledsupport staff workforce by being a visible presence and acting as anapprenticeship advocate across the Trust.
* Assist in the implementation of Trust-wide nursing, midwifery and allied healthprofessions (AHP) policies and practice guidelines
* Provide high quality care as an expert practitioner and act as a role model andresource for advice, support and guidance, demonstrating the role of a CSW
* Ensure and promote the maintenance of a safe, clean and secure workingenvironment
* Supervise and maintain accurate records using the Leeds Teaching HospitalsTrust and partner organisations documentation and electronic staff records(ESR)
* Undertake duties on other wards or departments as and when required by servicedemands or patient need.
* Have knowledge and understanding of completing competency assessments usingobservation or evidence of learning.


Educationand Training

* To support the co-ordination, facilitation and delivery of the Care Certificateprogramme for CSW or other non-qualified roles
* To work in conjunction with nursing educators to promote and support thedelivery of range of generic and bespoke learning activities for new andexisting CSW.
* To set up and prepare teaching rooms and learning resources and to facilitateour virtual learning programme.
* To provide support, guidance, mentorship, and coaching to individuals staffthat are undergoing a performance review due to concerns raised regardingcapability.
* To support the nursing education team in evaluating the effectiveness oflearning activities and support redesign programmes to meet the organisationalneeds.
* To ensure effective communication between the ward managers/matrons tofacilitate effective learning.
* To support ward teams in identifying areas of learning for the CSW
* Organises own workload and organises clinical visits to support CSWs
* Promote an effective learning environment within the workplace
* Facilitate and deliver clinical education programmes in clinical areas and inclinical education environments
* Act in such a way that safeguards the health and wellbeing of children andvulnerable adults at all times. Is familiar with and adheres to, the LTHTsafeguarding policies.
* Raise concerns with regards to risk, danger, malpractice or wrong doing byfollowing the LTHT Whistleblowing policy and supporting processes.
* Participate in own appraisal
* Undertake mandatory and priority training within the required time scales
* Collaborate with Organisational Learning and Professional Developmentdepartments in the provision of training and education
* Contribute to the maintenance of detailed and accurate records regarding staffeducation, including monthly and quarterly reports
* To ensure that ESR records are up to date with Care certificate compliance
* To undertake administrative duties as needed.
* Ability to teach, train and facilitate individuals and groups in a learning andworkplace environment.
* Ability to observe and assess skills competence.
* Ability to provide feedback during assessments in the workplace.
* Ability to evaluate evidence of learning.
* Provide support to clinical teams and work with Senior Nurses, ClinicalEducators and Nursing Directorate Team, Team Leaders, Senior Sisters, ChargeNurses to develop new roles/ways of working
* Act as a mentor to CSWs who are requiring extra support in practice
* Act as a resource for clinical areas with regards to performance issues
* Motivate staff in the delivery of quality patient care
* Contribute to Corporate Nursing and Midwifery objectives, service improvements,and to be responsible for delivery of educational key performance indicators
* Actively promotes and uses the Leeds Improvement Method to improve the qualityand safety of the service
* Act as a role model for other educators and staff

Experience

* Experience of working as senior healthcare assistant within an acute/social care setting.
* Experience of working in teaching/learning environment
* Evidence of carrying assessments in the workplace
* Experience of completing competence assessments using observation or evidence of learning
* Evidence of continued professional development
* Delivery of education and training within the clinical area, including innovative learning styles to enhance nursing skills
* Understanding the unregistered workforce and their contribution to the Trust workforce.
* Recent relevant occupational experience.
* Evidence of training and development
* Ability to teach fundamental skills in nursing care


Additional Requirements

* Facilitating learning for individuals in a classroom or work place setting.
* Ability to work clinically and support ward/ED teams as required
* Observation and assessment skills.
* Microsoft Office software applications/equivalent, e-mail and internet.

Qualifications

* Completion of the care certificate and can evidence this
* Level 3 Health & Social Care or equivalent qualification
* GCSE or Functional skills Level 2 in Maths and English
* Foundation Degree Level Education
* Qualification in Assessing
