Environmental Services Manager - Waste Management
Location: West Northamptonshire (Hybrid/Flexible Working)
Salary: £450 per day
Contract: Temporary - 3 months
Are you an experienced environmental or waste services professional with a passion for public service and operational excellence? We are proud to be partnering with West Northamptonshire Council in the search for a highly capable Environmental Services Manager to oversee a critical joint venture delivering waste, cleansing, and grounds maintenance services in the Daventry area.
About the Role
This is a pivotal management position within the Place, Economy and Environment Directorate, focused on leading the successful performance of environmental services delivered through a joint venture between WNC and Norse Group.
You'll be the key operational and performance lead, ensuring waste collection, street cleansing, and grounds maintenance are delivered to high standards, on time and in line with statutory requirements and contractual agreements. You'll also be responsible for managing budgets, analysing performance data, and building effective relationships with internal stakeholders and JV partners.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the day-to-day management of the joint venture delivering environmental services in Daventry.
* Monitor and manage service performance, financial budgets, and contractual compliance.
* Drive quality assurance through site inspections, service reviews, and KPI analysis.
* Handle escalated customer complaints and engage with local stakeholders and elected members.
* Provide expert advice on future service planning and strategic improvements.
* Manage a direct report (Environmental Services Officer) and support the wider Waste Services team.
About You
This is a role that demands both operational oversight and strategic thinking. The ideal candidate will have:
* A background in waste services management-preferably within or alongside a local authority.
* Strong experience in contract management, stakeholder engagement, and service delivery improvement.
* A confident communicator with experience of working with performance data and budgets.
* Knowledge of statutory responsibilities related to environmental services and local government operations.
* A full UK driving licence and willingness to undertake regular site visits.
Qualifications & Desirable Experience
* Degree or equivalent experience in Waste Management, Environmental Studies or Civil Engineering (essential).
* Relevant professional qualification and/or health & safety certification (desirable).
* Previous experience working with elected members and resolving customer service issues.
