Healthcare Assistant Complex Leg Wound Service

The closing date is 25 August 2025

This role is offered on a permanent basis. The hours are part-time, 22.5 hours per week.

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for a highly motivated, and experienced healthcare assistant who has a passion for improving complex leg wounds. This post is based in the Complex Leg clinic at Stroud General Hospital and is part of a wider team covering 5 clinics around the county. There will be occasional need to travel to other clinics to cover sickness and leave.


Main duties of the job

You will be working as a member of the Complex Leg Wound Service, supporting the clinic caseload leads in the delivery of direct patient care. You will be given any necessary training needed, through formal teaching and gaining practical skills in clinic working with an experienced nurse.

You will be working in a supportive team committed to high standards of patient care. Clinical support will be provided by Complex Leg Specialist Nurses and the Professional Lead. Development within the role is encouraged.

Job responsibilities

* To work as member of the Lower Limb and Complex Wound Team and to support the clinic caseload leads in the delivery of direct patient care
* To provide high standard of leg ulcer management and wound care to people in the community as delegated by the nurses with specialist interest.
* Provide continuity of care and treatment to patients in the clinic and report any changes to the nurses with specialist interest.
* To work as a skilled practitioner and develop expertise in compression bandaging skills.
* To measure and assess healed legs for compression hosiery at defined intervals with supervision.
* To work in line with clear treatment pathways and encourage patient concordance by tailoring treatment to their specific needs.
* To educate the patient in understanding their condition which requires wearing of compression hosiery to prevent ulcer recurrence.
* Patient education forms an important part of this role, teaching self-care to patients to prevent reoccurred


Person Specification


UK driving licence

* Level 1/GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent Adult Literacy and Numeracy)
* NVQ level 3 or equivalent
* Experience of direct adult patient care in a health/social care setting
* Evidence of team working abilities
* Some wound care experience
* Proven ability to work unsupervised
