About the role
Sherborne Castle has been home to The Wingfield Digby family since 1617. Built by
Sir Walter Raleigh in 1594 and surrounded by magnificent landscaped gardens and
parkland designed by Capability Brown. These have remained largely unaltered and
include champion trees, colourful herbaceous borders and a 50 acre lake in a

The gardens and landscape (around 40 acres) are open to the public between April
and October each year and are managed by a small, busy team who liaise regularly
with the family to ensure their input/vision is fully reflected in the up-keep of the
gardens.
Key responsibilities:-
* Under the guidance of the Gardens Supervisor, general daily up-keep of the lawns and borders, including seasonal planting, propogation, maintenance and landscape maintenance to a consistently high standard at all times.
* Use of all types of gardening machinery, along with their up-keep.
* Representing the Gardens department during open season, to include assisting on guided tours and talks, with the ability/confidence to deal with horticultural questions and advice.
Qualifications & Experience:-
* Previous horticultural experience and appropriate qualifications.
* Good plant knowledge and an eye for detail.
* Familiar with and able to operate all types of garden machinery and equipment (a chainsaw ticket would be an advantage).
* Ability to work as part of a team but also independently, using initiative where required.
