Job Summary
We are seeking a positive‑caring and self‑motivated ARRS Pharmacist to join our experienced clinical team on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract funded through the ARRS scheme. The role is part‑time, 3 days per week (including Mondays and Fridays), with the possibility of future extension.
Main Duties of the Job
* Conduct structured clinical medication reviews in primary care settings, prioritising patients in care homes, with complex polypharmacy, severe frailty, and those at high risk of medication‑related harm.
* Serve as the primary point of contact for prescription and medication queries within the practice.
* Support the repeat prescription system, handle acute prescription requests, reconcile medicines during transfers of care, and implement safer prescribing systems.
* Lead medicines optimisation and quality improvement initiatives, overseeing aspects of the Quality and Outcomes Framework and enhanced services.
* Provide clinical guidance on medicines, addressing the public and social care needs of patients.
* Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, including GPs, nurses, HCAs and admin staff.
* Participate in teaching activities with local universities and support student education as part of the practice’s teaching practice.
Other Duties (Not Limited To)
* Telephone consultations and multimedia contacts where appropriate.
* Work within a common framework for medication standards agreed by all PCN practices.
* Analyse, interpret and present medicines data to highlight risks and support decision making.
* Implement local and national guidance, MHRA alerts, formulary recommendations and monitor prescribing patterns.
* Provide education and training to the primary healthcare team on therapeutics and medicines optimisation.
* Ensure compliance with CQC standards where medicines are involved.
* Deliver specialist knowledge on public health programmes available to the public.

Betts Avenue Medical Centre is a long‑established GP practice located in the heart of Newcastle, operating across two sites (Kenton and Benwell). We currently have 3 GP partners, 2 salaried GPs, 1 ACP, 1 ANP and an established nursing, HCA and admin team serving a population of approximately 10,500 patients.

Person Specification
Essential
* Enrolled in or qualified from an approved 18‑month training pathway (e.g., CPPE clinical pharmacist training).
* Ability to practice and prescribe safely and effectively in a primary care setting.
* GPhC registered pharmacist.
* Strong understanding of GP practice, primary care prescribing, rational prescribing, and NHS structure.
* Awareness of common acute and chronic conditions in primary care.
Desirable
* Experience of improving polypharmacy outcomes.
* Minimum of two years working as a pharmacist in a practice portfolio.
* Experience using SystmOne electronic health records system.
Qualifications & Experience
* Evidence of completed training pathway or equivalent.
* Experience in clinical pharmacy roles and exposure to a multidisciplinary team.
* Understanding of NHS landscape, PCNs, and commissioners.
* Experience in medicines optimisation and quality improvement projects.
