🌟 Join Our Team as a Modern Apprentice in Healthcare! NHS Lanarkshire are delighted to announce a vacancy within Lanarkshire for a Modern Apprenticeship - Social Services and Healthcare - Health Care Assistant (Acute).
Key Details
* Locations: This post will be based in ward 5 at University Hospital Hairmyers.
* Duration: Fixed term post for 12 months starting from 20 January 2026. Part-time hours available with pro-rata salary.
* Eligibility: Applicants should be aged 16 to 24 years old on 1 December 2025, or up to 29 years for applicants who have a disability or those with care experience. Must demonstrate proficiency at SCQF Level 5/National 5 level.

What We Offer
* Training: Gain invaluable on-the-job training to develop a diverse range of healthcare procedures and skills.
* Qualification: Work towards achieving a Level 6 SCQF Qualification in Social Services and Healthcare with South Lanarkshire College, leading to a nationally recognised qualification.
* Support: You will be supported on this Modern Apprenticeship Programme with a dedicated workplace buddy, a Job Coach from the in-house Employability Team and regular networking sessions with other apprentices.
What We're Looking For
* Motivated Individuals: Highly motivated and committed individuals eager to join our Modern Apprenticeship Programme.
* Skills: Strong communication, interested in providing a high level of patient care and a passion for helping others. Ability to understand procedures and processes, and comfort with providing personal care to patients in a hands-on role.
* Interest: A particular interest in healthcare roles, with a positive attitude towards work and professional development.
Duties as a Healthcare Assistant may include
* Monitoring patients and performing basic health checks
* Helping patients to eat their meals
* Assisting patients with getting up and going to bed
* Supporting patients with washing, oral care, bathing and dressing
* Assisting with visits to the toilet or changing incontinence aids
* Caring for patients at the end of their lives
No Prior Experience Necessary
This Modern Apprenticeship welcomes applicants with limited work experience, including school leavers.
