The Tenancy and Financial Support team provides support to council tenants to improve their financial circumstances and sustain their tenancies. This includes assistance with Benefits, Council Tax, energy bills, and options to reduce debt and outgoings. Our support helps tenants thrive in their tenancies and promotes sustainable communities across North Tyneside.
The post holder will contribute to the daily organisation and service delivery of the Tenancy and Financial Support Service. This involves assisting in assessing service users through a triage process to ensure cases are appropriately allocated or signposted to other services. The role also supports tenants in maintaining their tenancies and encourages independence, quality of life, health, and well-being.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Be the first point of contact for the team, handling customer referrals and queries.
2. Provide advice and support, escalating issues when necessary.
3. Conduct 'quality conversations' with tenants and their households to proactively identify those in need of help and support.
4. Have a good working knowledge of Welfare Benefits to support, advise, and make recommendations to tenants regarding welfare benefits.
5. Assist tenants in applying for Discretionary Housing Payments, Council Tax reductions, and Income-Based Water Rates discounts.
6. Work collaboratively with other agencies, sharing information as needed, and liaise with partner organisations to gather information essential for triage assessments.
7. A Basic Level DBS Check is required for this position.
