Our client is seeking a highly motivated Applications Engineer to join their pioneering team based in Sheffield. As the Applications Engineer you will be: Supporting customers with technical queries related to advanced APD detector products Collaborating closely with Sales, Field Applications Engineers (FAEs), and Engineering to deliver expert product support Leading customer engagement during new product introductions and design-in activities Conducting lab-based experiments and product evaluations to support applications development Developing technical documentation including application notes, training materials, and reference designs Managing the delivery and support of evaluation kits and reference design boards Attending trade shows and visiting customers to provide hands-on technical support and demonstrations Acting as a technical expert across the companies product range and contributing to future product roadmap development To be considered for the Applications Engineer role you will need: A degree (BSc/BEng/MSc/PhD) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Optoelectronics or Physics 5 years’ experience in the Photonics, Semiconductor, or Data/Telecommunications sector Proven applications, evaluation or design engineering experience within detectors, optical components or communications systems A strong understanding of analogue and mixed-signal semiconductor products and optical sensing technologies Practical experience in optical receiver systems including APDs, photodiodes, laser range finding, LiDAR, or high-speed optical comms Familiarity with tools such as circuit simulation, data visualisation tools, and MS Office Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a customer-first mindset An organised, problem-solving approach and the ability to work across cross-functional teams This is a rare opportunity to join one of the UK’s most exciting and well-funded technology scale-ups, with a highly competitive salary and a strong package.
