Day Units & MPU Qualified Nurse (Maryport)
Job type: 37.5 hours
The Day Units are nurse‑led, highly skilled clinical sites aimed at preventing hospital admission and facilitating timely discharge. The role involves working largely alone and unsupervised, assessing patients, planning and implementing care, providing advice and education to patients, carers and colleagues, maintaining records, and carrying out complex nursing procedures.
Delegated management tasks include line management of other team members. Flexibility is required to meet patient needs. The service operates 7×7 between 8 am and 8 pm.
Main duties of the job
* Prioritise referrals and manage workload.
* Deliver scheduled care according to work rotas.
* Support colleagues across all Day Unit & MPU sites and cross‑cover rotas if required.
* Assess, deliver and evaluate all aspects of clinical nursing care based on best practice.
* Actively participate in training, competency achievement and delivery of new nursing interventions to further develop the Day Unit Service.
* Cannulate patients and administer IV medication and blood products as prescribed and as per Trust policy and SOP.
* Manage central lines.
* Manage and deliver a large variety of complex nursing procedures.
* Have a sound knowledge base of medication and its effects on conditions.
* Be responsible for appropriate and cost‑effective nurse prescribing.
* Administer medications, reviewing and monitoring effects.
* Communicate closely with patients and all parties involved in delivery of services.
* Order and ensure effective management of specialist nursing equipment.
* Work within safe parameters, referring to SOPs, CGs, policies and national guidelines.
* Liaise and communicate effectively with a variety of specialist clinicians and other referral sources.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Level 1 registered nursing qualifications.
* Post‑registration qualification in teaching/assessing.
* Evidence of continuous professional development to degree level or equivalent experience.
* Non‑Medical Prescribing V300 (achieved or working towards).

* Recent nursing experience – Day unit services and management of complex procedures.
* Both acute and community nursing experience.

* Post‑registration clinical skills (competent or working towards) – cannulation, catheterisation, mid‑line management, spirometry, venesection, nurse prescribing, wound assessment and care, venepuncture, blood product administration, biological therapy administration.
* Immediate life‑support trained.

Salary
£32,073 to £39,043 per annum, pro rata.
