Are you passionate about improving maternal and neonatal health? Join the NIHR Policy Research Unit in Maternal and Neonatal Health and Care (PRU-MNHC) at the National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit (NPEU) as a Health Services Researcher/Epidemiologist. In this role, you will contribute to important projects focused on health outcomes and care experiences for women before, during, and after pregnancy, as well as for their babies. You will work with large, complex datasets from national surveys and routinely collected health data to support impactful research.

You will manage your own research projects, coordinating various tasks to meet deadlines. Collaborating closely with internal and external partners, you will help develop research questions, study designs, and protocols, especially those involving complex methodologies and statistical analysis. Your responsibilities will include data management, cleaning, and analysis using advanced statistical techniques, as well as drafting reports and contributing to peer-reviewed publications.

You will represent the NPEU and PRU-MNHC at conferences and meetings, provide advice to colleagues, and engage with service users in key project decisions. Additionally, you will contribute to the broader academic community at Oxford Population Health through teaching, mentoring, and participating in training and quality assurance activities.

You should hold an MSc in statistics, epidemiology, or a related health field with significant biomedical statistics content. You need substantial experience in health services research and epidemiology, along with practical skills in managing large, complex datasets. Proficiency in statistical software, especially STATA, is essential. You must be able to handle multiple projects at once and meet deadlines effectively. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required along with experience in preparing documents for publication and drafting manuscripts. Experience in preparing and delivering higher education teaching materials is expected. Additionally, strong IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, are necessary.

Desirable qualifications include research experience in maternal, perinatal, or paediatric fields, proficiency in other statistical software like R, and holding or nearing completion of a DPhil/PhD.
