A little more about your role…
We are seeking a Senior or Principal Transport Consultant, preferably based in our Southampton office, who can:
1. Act as Project Manager on various projects delivering liveable places and sustainable transport routes in urban and rural settings;
2. Work directly with clients to meet their sustainable transport needs and help grow our work with them;
3. Demonstrate experience in traffic engineering or transport planning, including traffic signals design and modelling;
4. Prepare and review reports, drawings (using CAD), schedules, and other documents following standards and legislation such as LTN 1/20, LTN 1/24, Traffic Signs Manual, MfS, MfS 2, DMRB, and CDM 2015;
5. Manage the financial performance of projects;
6. Conduct technical reviews and checks of design deliverables;
7. Collaborate with the Liveable Places team, wider Transport team, and the broader WSP business to achieve objectives.
About the team
The Liveable Places team works with local authorities and private clients across the UK to realize placemaking ambitions through schemes involving public realm, traffic engineering, transport planning, road safety, traffic signals, pedestrian and traffic modelling, active travel, and parking. We have recent successes with several local authorities and agencies.
Our team, based in various offices nationwide, comprises over 200 passionate professionals dedicated to delivering impactful projects. This role offers a great opportunity for career development through diverse experiences and to play a pivotal role in the growth of the Liveable Places team.
What we look for
* A degree in civil engineering, transport engineering, or transport planning;
* Membership of a relevant professional body;
* Chartered Engineer or Chartered Transport Planning Professional status;
* Experience in leading project teams and managing projects and budgets;
* Passion for mentoring and talent development;
* Experience in transport, traffic signals, road safety, or highway engineering;
* Strong communication skills, capable of liaising with officials, the public, and colleagues.
