An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with relevant skills, experience and knowledge to join the Maternity Team at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMB). Morecambe Bay is one of the most picturesque parts of the country with the Lake District on our doorstep. The post holder will be an autonomous practitioner who will offer specialist knowledge, advice and supervision to UHMB maternity colleagues who are working at South Lakes Birth Centre, Barrow-in-Furness,. The post holder will The post holder will be responsible for the 24 hour management and clinical leadership of the midwifery services at South Lakes Birth Centre, Barrow-in-Furness, midwifery team. Will be expected to lead and build the team. Organise others in their actions and set priorities, objectives and goals within their sphere of responsibility. You will be working as part of a midwifery management team which work across the three main hospital sites - South Lakes Birth Centre in Barrow-in-Furness, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI) and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal. You will be based at South lakes Birth Centre in Barrow-in-Furness, but there will be an expectation that you travel to the other sites as required.
Main duties of the job
Provide professional support and advice to practitioners within the Trust who are who dealing with maternity safeguarding issues. Provide safeguarding supervision to staff in line with the Trust safeguarding supervision policy. Actively participate in the development and delivery of maternity safeguarding training. Work collaboratively with maternity/obstetric colleagues, other healthcare providers and relevant agencies on all matters relating to maternity safeguarding. Act as the advocate for the unborn baby and newborn infant.
About us
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
