NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included. The shift pattern for this post are Monday-Friday, 37 hours per week You need to have a live NMC UK pin in order to be considered for this post. The Day Surgery Unit (DSU) in the New Victoria Hospital (NVH) requires an Anaesthetic Practitioner (AP) who must be either an Operating Department Assistant (ODP) or a Registered General Nurse (RGN) who has successfully completed the NHS Education for Scotland (NES) Core Competencies for Anaesthetic Assistants Portfolio. The DSU consists of 8 theatres, a Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU), a treatment room and a 23 hour stay ward. The theatre sessions consist of a variety of specialties including; Orthopaedics, Urology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Maxilla Facial, Gynaecology and a Pain Service. The successful candidate will be required to provide skilled Anaesthetic assistance to our Anaesthetists, care for postoperative patients in the PACU and participate in the Resuscitation Rota for the NVH. Dual training may be a requirement in the future. DSU is fully committed to increasing capacity which requires the successful candidate to care for patients with increasingly complex needs; in line with the British association of Days Surgery (BADS) recommendations. Accordingly, a current Immediate Life Support (ILS) certificate is advantageous but training can also be provided. DSU is a fast paced environment and collaborative working is requisite as the successful candidate may require to work in multiple areas during a shift. The unit is friendly and promotes ongoing personal, professional development offering various opportunities. The post holder will be required to provide support to the Senior Charge Nurse and assume responsibility in their absence. Additionally, participation in the following tasks and systems is required: compiling staff rotas, inputting SSTS data, reviewing TURAS and Datix submissions and participating in departmental audits to implement theatre processes. You will be required to order stock for clinical procedures via Pecos, maintain stock levels including medication and organize servicing of Anaesthetic equipment required to ensure ongoing service provision. The post holder will have expert knowledge across a wide range of theatre specialties, will contribute to teaching and training and encourage ongoing staff development using evidence based research to underpin clinical decisions. Excellent communication skills are crucial to receive and disseminate communication between staff, management, other departments and members of the multidisciplinary team. Sensitive information must comply with GDPR legislation. Additionally, the post holder will be expected if required to engage in multi-site working within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde in order to meet service needs. As per NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s pre-employment checks candidates must provide evidence of current NMC/HCPC registration prior to the start date.
