Senior Electrical Engineer
This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low and extra‑low voltage electrical systems and equipment to join the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team as a Senior Electrical Engineer. Expertise relating to control systems design and SCADA/telemetry systems would be beneficial.
Responsibilities
* Influence and shape service delivery for the future of the Standards, Asset Management and Engineering Directorate.
* Provide technical engineering leadership and support to the whole organisation, helping to meet objectives of safe, reliable and sustainable assets and net zero commitments.
* Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules for HV and LV power systems and control systems within assets such as pumping stations, water management, flood defence structures and monitoring sites.
* Develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for all employees managing or carrying out work on electrical systems and equipment.
* Hold a national incident response role (within normal hours or out of hours).
* Collaborate across the business and with external partners to ensure standards and practices are consistently applied.
Qualifications and Experience
* Good working knowledge of the Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* Good working knowledge of control systems, including the application of IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry/SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Experience in the development and delivery of Safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements.
* Testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
* Strong understanding of a risk‑based approach to electrical maintenance philosophies, including the application of Failure Mode Effects Analysis, reliability systems and processes.
* Drafting and publishing of electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, team working and communication skills.
* Current membership of a recognised engineering institution and Chartered Engineer registration with the UK Engineering Council, or evidence of working toward registration within 12 months.
* UK driving licence.
