Job Opportunity: Maintenance Electrician
Location: Oxford
Reports to: Head of Maintenance
Our client is seeking a Maintenance Electrician/Assistant to join a dedicated maintenance team in Oxford. This role is ideal for a skilled professional with a strong electrical background. Responsibilities include daily maintenance of utilities, plant, machinery, and equipment, with an emphasis on electrical tasks and supporting general maintenance activities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Respond promptly to maintenance issues and breakdowns
2. Perform routine checks of plant, infrastructure, and fabric; adjust the College's Building Management System (BMS) as needed
3. Identify and gather materials required for maintenance tasks
4. Handle chemicals safely following COSHH guidelines and hazard data sheets
5. Participate in water monitoring, including legionella inspections and reporting
6. Maintain accurate records using digital tools such as PDAs or tablets
7. Perform electrical fault-finding and repairs, ensuring statutory documentation is completed
8. Conduct testing and inspections as part of preventative maintenance schedules
9. Engage in ongoing training and refresher courses
10. Assist with general building maintenance, including minor repairs (lighting, locks, carpentry)
11. Report future maintenance needs proactively
12. Support colleagues with daily maintenance and small refurbishment projects
13. Update electrical installation records in College documentation and safety files
14. Ensure electrical works are certified and standards-compliant
15. Maintain tools and test equipment in good condition; report issues
16. Follow health and safety policies and report hazards
17. Use PPE and maintain a safe working environment
18. Assist with workshop cleanliness and compliance
19. Carry a College radio and communicate as needed
20. Be adaptable and willing to learn new skills
21. Participate in out-of-hours call-out rota after training
Essential Experience & Qualifications:
1. Experience in multi-trade repair, planned maintenance, and small projects
2. Experience working within a small maintenance team
3. Strong electrical repair and maintenance skills
4. City & Guilds or NVQ in electrical maintenance/installation, including AM2
5. 18th Edition wiring regulations certification
6. PAT testing experience with Seward or similar testers
7. Experience participating in an on-call rota
8. Resides within 30-45 minutes of Oxford
