Overview
Continuous improvement is at the heart of what we do. Systems Engineering is an exciting domain within Customer Services for a number of reasons:
* We are a key interface and the closest area to the Design Office within Customer Services, while always keeping airline customers as our main focus;
* We are a small, agile team that can rely on a large, extended network. Our Retrofit Solutions Engineering teams are distributed across sites in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, India, and the USA, making transnational collaboration a part of our daily work;
* Our work is varied and highly interactive. Our Service Bulletins cover both standard applications (for all aircraft in a family) and upgrade scenarios (dedicated to specific customer requests);
* The UK's areas of responsibility include most of the Landing Gear, Wing, and Fuel topics for all Airbus Commercial aircraft.
What you will be doing
You will be given the opportunity to work in a small, experienced and collaborative team, for the in-service aircraft, as well working alongside colleagues from all over the wider business. You are expected to contribute to the creation of optimum solutions, to own smaller projects, and to support on-going activities. You will also have the opportunity to be part of an early careers community to support your professional development. As an Airbus Intern in this team, you may find yourself working on:
* The identification of installation drawings design solutions;
* Feasibility analysis;
* Configuration management;
* Continuous improvement initiatives like processes;
* Knowledge capture;
* Compliance with Airworthiness requirements;
* Ground Support Equipment;
* Future ways of working (like new integrated tools).
The team will provide you with a challenging, exciting, and rewarding working experience with learning opportunities that will bring both aircraft and non-aircraft (like methods and processes) knowledge. You will gain experience and relative training on a variety of different toolsets, from bespoke tools developed for Airbus to engineering and management tools used by the whole industry.
Qualifications
* Studying towards a degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or equivalent;
* Interest in the area and the industry;
* Nice to have knowledge in Computer Aided Design (e.g. CATIA) and modelling tools (such as ADAMS, Matlab Simulink, Fluent);
* Awareness of programming languages (with the willingness to run scripts, for example);
* Inquisitive mindset with good problem solving skills;
* Willingness to learn and develop different skills (technical, project management, communication, etc.);
* Willing to learn from mistakes and channel feedback into personal development;
* Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
SECURITY CLEARANCE: You will be subject to a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check. You may also need to gain UK SC-level Security Clearance or Export Control, depending on the role. This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company's success, reputation and sustainable growth.
Additional information
Join the Airbus Systems Engineering team, which handles the complex area of maintenance and retrofit engineering in aerospace. Our responsibility is to create the technical information for the production of instruction dossiers, known as "Service Bulletins," to implement improvements and upgrade modifications. In the UK, our primary focus is on Landing Gear Systems and Wing Structure for the A320 family, A330 family, and A350XWB. You will also have the opportunity to experience other areas, such as the fuselage and wet/dry systems, giving you visibility of the full aircraft and the challenges it faces. As product cycles are very long, the tools and ways of working are constantly evolving.
Airbus is committed to achieving workforce diversity and creating an inclusive working environment. We welcome all applications irrespective of social and cultural background, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation or religious belief. Airbus is, and always has been, committed to equal opportunities for all. As such, we will never ask for any type of monetary exchange in the frame of a recruitment process. Any impersonation of Airbus to do so should be reported to emsom@airbus.com. At Airbus, we support you to work, connect and collaborate more easily and flexibly. Wherever possible, we foster flexible working arrangements to stimulate innovative thinking.
