Responsibilities
for the Commissioning Engineer role are:
1. Identify and diagnose faults across train systems including doors, interior sockets, fire suppression systems, and other onboard equipment
2. Commission trains for export and domestic operation, ensuring compliance with engineering standards
3. Manage projects including timelines, costs, and resource allocation
4. Supervise and mentor a team of engineers and technicians
5. Ensure all work is completed safely, following company procedures and railway standards
6. Produce accurate reports on faults, commissioning progress, and project outcomes
7. Liaise with the Head of Engineering and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality outcomes
8. Maintain awareness of project schedules, fleet availability, and operational requirements
9. Participate in international projects as required
Essential skills and experience required for this Commissioning Engineer role:
10. Previous experience with HST, Mark 2/Mark 3, and Class 60/66 rolling stock
11. Proven experience in commissioning and fault-finding on trains
12. Strong technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and onboard systems
13. Leadership experience, including managing teams and delegating tasks
14. PTS certification (Personal Track Safety)
15. Flexible approach to working hours and locations, including travel to projects
Desirable skills and experience required for this Commissioning Engineer role:
Experience with fleet management, project planning, and reporting
Knowledge of international rail standards and export commissioning processes
