ID Medical Insourcing provider is seeking an experienced and motivated Ophthalmology Nurse-in-Charge to lead and coordinate insourced nursing services within our Ophthalmology Department.
This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of high-quality ophthalmic care across outpatient clinics, ward, diagnostic areas, and theatre settings. You will provide clinical leadership to insourced nursing staff, support service delivery targets, and work closely with ophthalmologists, managers, and multidisciplinary teams.

Requirements:
The applicant must be a Registered Nurse with significant ophthalmology experience, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage complex clinical and operational demands. You will be confident working autonomously, supporting staff, and driving high standards of care in a fast-paced environment.

Role Overview
* Ophthalmic clinical expertise
* Undertake ophthalmic assessments including: Visual acuity testing (Snellen, logmar, kay pictures, Sheridan, amsler, ishihara). Expert in Slit lamp examination. Ability to check the anterior segment of the eye. Ability to carry out VH examination, Intraocular pressure measurement (e.g. Goldmann / iCare tonometry). Ability to record central corneal thickness with the use of pachymetre. Ability to check Relative Afferent Pupillary Defect (RAPD). Visual field testing (where trained). OCT and retinal imaging (where trained). Ability to use autorefractor and foscimeter machines
* Prepare patients for ophthalmic consultations and procedures
* Assist ophthalmologists with outpatient procedures, including: Intravitreal injection clinics, Laser treatments, Minor ophthalmic procedures
* Administer ophthalmic medications and dilating drops as prescribed
* Monitor patients pre- and post-procedure, identifying and escalating complications promptly
* Ability to perform biometry/IOL scans with the use of IOL 500/700 machines and A-scan machine
* Leadership and staff supervision

* Provide expert clinical leadership within ophthalmology services, ensuring evidence-based practice.
* Oversee and coordinate pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative ophthalmic care.
* Support ophthalmologists during procedures and surgical lists.
* Ensure patient safety, safeguarding, infection prevention, and medicines management standards are met.
* Act as a senior clinical decision-maker and escalation point.
