As part of its ongoing efforts to ensure the city’s highways are free from obstruction and misuse, the council is recruiting a Highway Enforcement Officer for a short-term contract with the potential for extension—and even the opportunity to apply for a permanent role based on performance - not guaranteed.
Your new role
As a Highway Enforcement Officer, you will be responsible for identifying and addressing obstructions, encroachments, and nonpliant use of the city’s highways and roads. This includes monitoring businesses and vehicles that may be in breach of regulations. You will collect evidence, follow up on cases, and ensure appropriate enforcement actions are taken. You’ll be trained on relevant enforcement legislation, which is straightforward to learn, and you’ll be paired with a buddy for support during your duties.This role offers flexible working, and you’ll have the freedom tomute from home or the office to wherever you’re needed most, it is whatever suits you best. Due to this, a valid driving licence is preferred.
What you'll need to succeed
You should be observant, confident in dealing with the public, and capable of working independently while also being a reliable team player. A driving licence is not essential but may be beneficial formuting between locations. Prior enforcement experience is necessary, but you will be trained on highway legislation.
