As a Prisoner Custody Officer in our Prisoner Escort Custody Services (PECS) team, you’ll operate in a fast-paced court environment, safely escorting people in custody to, from and within court settings. From high-profile hearings to rapid secure movements, you’ll tackle real-time challenges as part of a close-knit team, always treating those in your care with dignity and respect. Throughout the 5 ½-week paid training period and beyond, you’ll build skills that help you grow – from practical on the ground training, sensitive communication skills and safeguarding knowledge to ongoing development that gives you headroom to progress and take pride in your impact. What you’ll do as a Prisoner Custody Officer You’ll be entrusted to: Escort detainees safely to and from courtrooms, cells and secure areas, following approved procedures (including handcuffs where required) Monitor detainees in the dock, maintaining safety, order and vigilance throughout proceedings Safeguard confidentiality when exposed to sensitive evidence or distressing content, remaining professional at all times Support detainee welfare by providing food and drink, and observing, recording and escalating concerns about their mental or physical health Conduct searches of people and property to prevent contraband entering secure areas, and respond quickly to incidents and emergencies Complete accurate records, reports and data entry for movements, incidents and other required information Work closely with court colleagues, law enforcement and legal professionals to keep operations running smoothly Does this sound like you?
