Overview

We are looking for a confident and enthusiastic Geomatics Analyst to join the National Monitoring Survey team. The role focuses on delivering remote sensing products, with a strong emphasis on airborne optical data to support intertidal vegetation mapping, particularly saltmarsh extent and zonation. The work supports the Environment Agency’s statutory reporting obligations under the Water Environment (Water Framework Directive) Regulations by helping to assess and monitor intertidal habitats. The team collaborates across National & Area teams to supply high-quality spatial data for environmental monitoring and reporting.

The post is full-time with flexibility around working patterns. You can be based anywhere within working proximity to an Environment Agency office, with travel to the Geomatics team hub in Bath when required. MS Teams interviews will be used for the selection process.

* Produce high-quality spatial data to support environmental monitoring and reporting, including ground truth data collection to validate remote sensing outputs where required.
* Contribute to remote sensing projects such as saltmarsh extent and zonation mapping from high-resolution aerial imagery; opportunistic Macro Algae monitoring in intertidal zones; editing existing spatial features and digitising new extents; identifying vegetation types in imagery using broad classification systems.
* Support environmental monitoring and incident response through other remote sensing analysis.

Qualifications and Experience

* Relevant degree in Geography, Remote Sensing, GIS, Environmental Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
* Strong GIS skills, ideally using ESRI products (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, or ArcMap), and experience working with large spatial datasets for analysis and reporting.
* Practical experience with remote sensing data, particularly airborne optical imagery, and understanding of image classification techniques for habitat mapping. Experience with satellite and drone data is beneficial.
* Familiarity with feature class management and spatial editing workflows; ability to edit existing spatial features and digitise new extents; ability to identify vegetation types in imagery.
* Strong organisational skills, professional attitude, ability to work independently and meet deadlines, plus effective communication and teamwork.
