Location: Middlesbrough, Teesside
Start Date: After Easter
Contract: Supply / Long-Term

Protocol Education is working with a friendly secondary school in Middlesbrough to appoint a Humanities Teacher to join a well-established department from after Easter. This opportunity suits an experienced teacher ready for a new environment or an Early Career Teacher looking for the right balance of support and independence.

The Humanities team is collaborative, forward-thinking, and proud of the engaging curriculum they deliver. You’ll be encouraged to share ideas, try new approaches, and teach in a way that helps students make sense of the world around them.

The role
You’ll be teaching Humanities across KS3 and KS4, delivering lessons that are engaging, structured, and inclusive. The curriculum is broad and carefully planned, with flexibility to teach to your subject strengths where possible, whether that’s History, Geography, or another Humanities specialism.

Your day-to-day will include:

1. Planning and delivering high-quality Humanities lessons that challenge and inspire

2. Helping students develop critical thinking, discussion skills, and curiosity about people and places

3. Creating a calm, positive classroom environment where strong behaviour for learning is the norm

4. Using a variety of teaching strategies and technology to keep lessons purposeful and engaging

5. Differentiating effectively to support all learners

6. Monitoring progress and using assessment to shape future teaching

7. Working closely with colleagues to keep teaching and learning consistent and creative

What we’re looking for

8. UK QTS (or working towards it for ECTs)

9. A passion for Humanities and helping students see its relevance beyond the classroom

10. Strong classroom presence and relationship-building skills

11. A reflective approach and willingness to develop professionally

12. Commitment to inclusive practice and high expectations for every student
