Job Description
As a Principal Systems Engineer (Landing Gear), you will join our team to support our activities within the Aerospace sector.
You will play a key role in the development of aircraft landing gear systems, ensuring solutions are compliant with customer requirements and certification standards. Working within a structured systems engineering framework, you will drive requirements definition, system development, and supplier management across complex aerospace programmes.
* Location: Bristol
* On Site: 2-3 days per week
* Clearance: Eligibility for UK Security Clearance required
* Experience Level: Senior/Principal
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the systems engineering activities for aircraft landing gear systems
* Define and manage the system development plan in line with programme requirements
* Capture, analyse, and translate customer needs into system and sub-system requirements
* Oversee requirements validation and product verification activities
* Manage the development of structures, extension/retraction systems, hydraulics, and electrical harnesses
* Coordinate and manage equipment suppliers (e.g. actuators, hydraulic components, electrical systems)
* Ensure compliance with regulatory and certification requirements
Qualifications
Required Skills:
* Strong experience in systems engineering within aerospace or complex engineering environments
* Knowledge of landing gear systems or hydromechanical systems
* Proven experience across the full system V-cycle
* Strong background in requirements management and system verification/validation
* Experience managing suppliers and external partners
* Understanding of safety-critical and regulated systems
Required Qualifications:
* A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
* Extensive experience in systems engineering or system development roles
* Proven experience in requirements capture, analysis, and decomposition
Desirable Skills:
* Experience working on landing gear systems or similar aerospace equipment
* Familiarity with aerospace certification standards and processes
* Experience within OEMs or Tier 1 aerospace suppliers
* Exposure to multi-disciplinary integration (mechanical, hydraulic, electrical systems)
