Overview
This is a one‑year research‑focused position, potentially extendable, that advances the state‑of‑the‑art in Directed Energy Deposition Additive Manufacturing (DEDAM). The role focuses on developing multi‑material systems and high‑performance metallic structures, spearheading experimental campaigns to evaluate process stability and material integrity and exploring novel material combinations such as metal‑metal composites and metal‑composite joining techniques.
Responsibilities
* Manufacture high‑quality specimens for characterisation by research partners.
* Conduct rigorous experimental design and evaluate process stability and material integrity.
* Integrate process digitalisation and advanced monitoring and automation frameworks to enhance system integration and data‑driven insights.
* Systematically analyse experimental data to establish fundamental correlations between process parameters, microstructures, and mechanical properties.
* Refine DEDAM processes to optimise fabricated components for specific mechanical load scenarios.
Qualifications
* PhD (or close to completion) in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
* Demonstrable relevant experience and achievements in process development and material characterisation.
* Proven knowledge of monitoring and control system development within the metal additive manufacturing process.
* Developing track record of publishing in high‑quality journals.
* Excellent communication, planning and organisational skills, with a proven ability for problem‑solving.
* Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance.
Working Arrangements
Flexible working is available, with a combination of on‑site and remote work where the role permits.
