Purpose
To efficiently and safely operate mobile plant machinery used for bulking and processing recycling / waste material in a busy recycling plant. To help manage bulk material coming onto site and to sort, process and prepare for re-loading accordingly.
Responsibilities
* feeding the shredder and baler using appropriate segregation, sorting and bulking as directed by company procedures.
* Loading and unloading bulk materials from heavy goods vehicles using equipment such as loading shovels and telehandlers and forklift trucks (valid licences essential).
* Operating static plant including balers and shredders (full training to be provided)
* Carrying out daily machine start-up and shut-down procedures
* Ensuring that all mobile plant and equipment are maintained in a clean and safe condition
* Carrying out daily machine checks and ensuring that any defects/damage are recorded, reported and rectified in a timely manner
* Complying with all equipment operating systems
* Complying with and helping to enforce all Company Health & Safety procedures to help raise awareness and minimise risk
* To carry out basic maintenance and unblocking of recycling equipment and to inform the Supervisor when servicing and additional maintenance is required to plant or machinery.
* To assist in the unloading of deliveries of waste materials and recyclables on site and ensuring that all stock is checked and stored in the correct manner.
* Responsible for maximising recycling levels and minimising level of waste sent to landfill, and always ensuring safe use of equipment on site
* To Report any contamination of materials via agreed procedures.
* Responsible for always maintaining site safety and cleanliness.
* To always comply with PPE onsite rules and to ensure all Health and Safety regulations relating to the MRF and operating procedures are adhered to.
* To assist in the safe storage of items within the site (e.g., recyclables, storage bins).
Any other duties which are in line with the grade and general level of responsibility of the post.
Skills Required
* Good operative knowledge, experience and understanding of mobile plant & machinery including mechanical shovels (Telehandlers) and 360 machine with Grab attachment.
* Must be comfortable with working in a fast-paced & heavy industrial environment
* Good all-round team player skills and must also be able to work under own initiative when required.
* Good understanding of Health and safety responsibilities.
* Willingness to carry out manual tasks such as hand-sorting/balling and machine maintenance as well as operate machinery.
* Willingness to work additional hours as and when required in order to meet business demand
* CPCS not required but training qualification to operate mobile plant is essential
Contractual working hours of shifts Monday - Friday and rotational Saturday shift
£730.35 per week based on 47.5 hours, overtime attracts a rate of £21.38 per hour).
