The Role

We're looking for a Laboratory Team Leader to take charge of day-to-day operations in our busy Support Services section. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working with people as much as with data, managing client communications, ensuring efficient workflows, and maintaining the highest standards of analysis.
As a Laboratory Team Leader in our Support Services section, you'll be leading a small and committed team, ensuring all client samples are analysed accurately, on time, and in line with our rigorous quality standards. You'll act as the key link between our clients, laboratory staff, and the Laboratory Manager to keep projects on track, resources optimised, and communication flowing smoothly.

The day to day
* Efficiently organise and manage your team to ensure all samples are analysed to a high standard
* Continuously review resources (staff, equipment, consumables) and flag any shortfalls to the Laboratory Manager.
* Ensure all quality and safety procedures are strictly followed and that documentation is completed accurately and in full.
* Confirm client requirements are fully understood before testing begins, checking that all samples are suitable for analysis.
* Communicate proactively with clients regarding sample queries, turnaround times, and any unforeseen delays.
* Manage day-to-day client communications, providing clear and professional responses to technical and analytical queries.
* Support, mentor, and oversee staff training and development, keeping the Laboratory Manager informed of progress and performance.
The Essentials
* A degree in a science discipline (or equivalent) including Science, English, and Mathematics.
* Proven experience in a laboratory environment, ideally within food science, chemistry, or microbiology, with a sound theoretical and practical understanding of microbiology methods and procedures.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), with excellent data handling and reporting skills.
* A solid understanding of laboratory quality systems, ensuring analytical data meets ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 17025:2017 standards.
* Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills, with the ability to manage, motivate, and develop a small team effectively.
* Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality at or above internal and industry expectations.
