Who We Are:
The Port of London Authority is the statutory harbour authority for the tidal Thames and responsible for 95 miles of the River Thames from the Estuary to Teddington Lock in West London. We work to keep river users safe, protect and enhance the environment and promote the use of the river for trade and travel.
What You’ll Do:
* Develop mechanical engineering skills relevant to marine vessels through a structured, hands-on apprenticeship.
* Attend college one day per week to receive theory and practical training, working towards Level 2 and Level 3 diplomas in a marine engineering discipline.
* Work alongside experienced engineers, assisting with installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical systems on vessels and marine equipment.
* Progress through a competency-based training programme, achieving sign-off at each stage to ensure you meet industry standards and company expectations.
* Gain experience reading and interpreting technical drawings, manuals, and specifications.
* Maintain strict adherence to health and safety regulations in all activities.
* Keep accurate records of your work and training progress.
What We’re Looking For:
* A keen interest in marine engineering and mechanical systems.
* 5 GCSE’s grade A-C (9-4) including Maths, English language and Physics or equivalent.
* Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
* A proactive, hardworking attitude with a willingness to learn and develop new skills.
* Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
* Commitment to completing the full 4-year apprenticeship programme.
