We’re recruiting a CDM Consultant / Principal Designer to join a leading HSE consultancy delivering complex construction and refurbishment projects across the UK. This role supports major clients in sectors including manufacturing, aviation, food & beverage, and engineering.
The Role
You’ll act as Principal Designer, leading health & safety throughout the design and pre-construction phases. Working closely with clients, designers, and contractors, you’ll identify and mitigate risks, ensure compliance, and support safe project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
* Safety Planning: Managing, monitoring, and coordinating health and safety from the initial concept design through to the construction phase.
* Risk Management: Eliminating, reducing, or controlling potential hazards by working with other designers.
* Information Gathering: Assisting the client in gathering pre-construction information, such as health and safety files, and sharing it with contractors.
* Compliance: Ensuring the design team has the necessary skills, knowledge, and experience to fulfil their roles.
* Collaboration: Acting as the main point of liaison between the client and the principal contractor regarding design risks.
Were looking for someone who has...
* Experience in a CDM / Principal Designer role
* NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate
* IOSH/APS membership (e.g. TechIOSH, IMaPS) preferred
* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills - You will need to be confident to engage with Senior Stakeholders, Project Managers, Architects, Engineering Consultancies and Construction Contractors.
* Confidence in conducting site inspections and design reviews, demonstrating an ability to identify risks and propose effective remediation actions that can lower the risk profile for both client and construction contractors.
* The ability to promote a Safety First culture and recognise the importance of the CDM 2015 regulations.
