Overview
The safe and efficient operation of our assets is key to our business, without our assets our business doesn’t exist. As the Cables Manager, you will lead daily cable operations, monitoring contractors and ensuring our suppliers deliver to the expected standards.
The team is responsible for oversight on our cables in the UK and France. You will also be expected to become familiar with our converter station assets, access arrangements and emergency procedures to support their daily operation if required.
The role is responsible for the whole of the ElecLink cable installation and is the single point of contact for all cable inspection, maintenance and repair activities. This role focusses on the preparation and planning for all credible foreseeable events to minimise the risk of the event happening or to reduce the impact of the event should it occur. This includes any capability required to respond to urgent cable issues is procured, maintained and immediately available.
You will be part of a 24/7 on-call team to support incident response and issue resolution. Due the security requirements of working within the Channel Tunnel complex, enhanced security checks will need to be completed prior to the role being formally offered.
As part of the ElecLink Operations Management Team the role will also support meeting wider business goals, change management and ensuring ongoing regulatory compliance. The role has one direct report and will work with external suppliers, consultants and contractors.
Main responsibilities
Daily Operations
* Participate as a technical expert in any projects related to the performance of the cable or the cable installations
* Act as the primary point of contact in any Eurotunnel interfacing in relation to contractual matters related to the cable system such as managing the cable spares storage, changes to agreements, and invoice approvals.
* Responsible for the availability and capability of any equipment required to maintain and repair ElecLink’s Cable System. This will include any associated maintenance contracts.
* Lead any warranty claims towards suppliers in respect of ElecLink’s Cable System
* Lead the planning and longer‐term coordination of any planned outages and tunnel possessions related to the ElecLink’s Cable system
* Support the Converter Stations Manager for the real‐time operation of ElecLink as required
Cable Maintenance, Monitoring & Repair
* Lead the development and procure long term contracts to support the inspection, maintenance and repair of ElecLink’s AC & DC Cable systems within and external to the Channel Tunnel
* Lead the procurement and implementation of a replacement Maintenance, Maintenance and Repair contract
* Lead the on‐site response and resolution of any cable system defects or issues through Maintenance, Monitoring and Repair contract
Risk Management
* Ensure contractor work meets business expectations and is in line with industry best practice
* Review and comment on safety, health and environmental management processes, operation and maintenance policies and manuals, security arrangements, contingency procedures and emergency response plans
Incident Response
* Develop and deploy a training/testing regime to ensure ElecLink and its support contractors have the capability to respond effectively and efficiently to any AC or DC cable incident or defect
* Ensure that all relevant parties maintain, knowledge through familiarity training on bespoke cable repair equipment such as the Tunnel Jointing Platform (TJP) and its associated cable manipulators
* Participate, as ElecLink representative, in any incident investigation that is undertaken by any of our contractors associated with the cable installation
* Join ‘On-call Team’ which provides 24/7 remote and on-site response on a rota basis to manage operational issues on the interconnector
Minimum Standards & Selection Criteria
Experience Required
* Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role at an interconnector, windfarm, transmission system operator or power generator with a focus on the managing cable maintenance contracts
* Expert knowledge of operational and maintenance requirements for HVDC interconnectors, with a specific focus on the inspection, maintenance and repair of cables would be an advantage
* Good understanding of the regulatory frameworks under which HVDC interconnectors operate including grid codes in GB and France and any applicable European legislation
* Experience of managing contracts
Education
* Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in mechanical or electrical engineering or other relevant qualification and/or work experience

* Frequent travel will be required between London, Folkestone and Calais (France).
