A vacancy has arisen for a Flight Lieutenant – Flying Pilot (Any) – to serve as 4 AEF Flt Cdr at UGSAS, 12 Park Circus/Glasgow Airport on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 13 April 2026. 6 FTS is the largest and most diverse military flying training school in the country. From its HQ at RAFC Cranwell, the school manages a broad range of flying tasks, from Elementary Flying Training on University Air Squadrons to the provision of Air Experience Flying (AEF) for RAFAC. The successful applicant run No.4 Air Experience Flight delivering the cadet flying task. You will also deliver air and ground instruction for ab-initio aircrew as well as conversion and currency training for experienced aircrew on No.4 AEF. Additionally, you will be working as a member of a small team and be required to undertake a range of secondary duties associated with the supervision of flying and the management of the Squadron; including line management of staff. Furthermore, in addition to your duties with the UAS, but within the terms and conditions of FTRS(LC), you will be required to carry out those duties associated with a commissioned officer of your rank. Specifically, you will be required to: Deliver the 4 AEF flying task; normal working week during term time is Tue-Sat inclusive and during school holidays Mon-Fri. The working week can change to any 5 day period subject to 2 weeks’ notice of change. Deliver flying training to UAS students in accordance with the current 6 FTS syllabus. Deliver flying programme and integrate with other Glasgow Airport users to ensure most efficient usage of personnel and equipment in achieving aims. Deliver monitoring of AEF Pilot/student flying progress and administration of AEF Pilot/student flying records and documentation. Deliver supervision of the UGSAS flying programme as Duty Pilot when directed. Requirement to deploy on Camp with UGSAS. Hold post of Unit Air Safety Officer (after trg, if required). Hold post of Human Factors Facilitator (after trg, if required). Deliver directed key command functions, in the absence of OC and D/OC, as A/OC UAS. Deliver change as directed by 6FTS or OC UAS. Support UAS ground training activities as directed by OC UAS in support of the ground training programme. This includes delivery and administration of the Modular Initial Officer Training syllabus. Attend squadron Training Nights (1930-2300), as required, at 12 Park Circus, held weekly during university term times (currently Thu nights). Act as Staff Mentor to a cadre of UAS members, monitoring student progress, welfare and the completion of mentor reporting procedures as defined by HQ 6 FTS. Provide staff supervision during UAS activities when delegated by OC UAS in accordance with the unit and HQ 6 FTS Supervisory Care Directives. Support UAS ground activities as directed by OC UAS in support of 2nd/3rd party unit assurance, external validations or standards visits. Support UAS AT expeditions on a volunteer basis. Complete any specialist training courses to fulfil secondary duties, eg Flying Authorisers/Supervisors Course, Aviation Medicine Course, Flt Safety Officer or PCMIO course. Complete Mandatory Training Courses as required by RAF policy which includes Human Factors & Error Management Training, Diversity & Inclusion Training, Advanced Care of the Trainee and Defence Train the Trainer Course. Complete other courses mandated by HQ 6 FTS for UAS staff. Lead and perform by example upholding RAF and societal values and standards. Act as an ambassador for diversity and inclusion. Support the zero tolerance policies regarding alcohol, substance abuse, harassment and bullying.
