We can offer flexible start and finish times to ensure you can manage your schedule, while any holiday time accrued will be fully paid as part of your final pay. This full‑time commitment will allow you to develop deeper expertise and make a meaningful impact throughout your internship.

The internship will run from the 6th July 2026 to the 28th August 2026.

Business Support

Join a dynamic team responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient provision of Business Support services across the Tees Valley Combined Authority. This includes overseeing the Business Support team's efforts in delivering a comprehensive range of administrative services, managing reception duties, coordinating conference and meeting room operations, and addressing bespoke operational support service needs. A key aspect of this role involves supporting the team in managing and prioritising their workload, coordinating activities with peer officers and Business Support Assistants. Additionally, the candidate will work to ensure the successful delivery of Business Support tasks and activities as allocated by the Business Support Manager, which may involve administrative tasks, reception services, conference room management, and operational administrative services for the Group's various departments. Throughout their time in this role, the candidate will have the opportunity to engage in ongoing development initiatives and contribute to enhancing the overall effectiveness of the Business Support services across the Group. With guidance from the team, they will support the delivery of high‑priority projects and work towards improving the way the Group engages with businesses and stakeholders to ensure a responsive and high‑impact service offering.

Creative Place

Our Creative Place team is driving Tees Valley's ambition to become a leading hub for creative and digital innovation. We're building a high‑performing creative cluster that connects cultural organisations with high‑growth industries like games, music, and film & TV – creating the conditions for ideas, talent and businesses to thrive. At the same time, we're delivering the UK's only Digital & Creative Investment Zone, a bold programme to attract investment, scale businesses and position Tees Valley on the national and global stage. Alongside this, we play a key role in growing the region's visitor economy – developing distinctive experiences, supporting local businesses, and working in partnership to strengthen how Tees Valley connects, presents and promotes itself. As an intern, you'll gain insight into this work as it develops and contribute to areas where strategy turns into action. You'll help build the evidence and insight that underpins our decisions, working with data on business performance, skills and innovation, while collaborating with teams across the Combined Authority and external partners. You'll also have a chance to lead your own project exploring opportunities for young people in the region.

Investment Development

Our Investment Development Team is looking for someone who is enthusiastic and enjoys investigating a topic and using the information to think about how things can be done differently. At a time of unprecedented investment in the Tees Valley, you will join a team responsible for identifying regional investment priorities and opportunities, support the development of projects that will contribute to transforming the region's economy and, secure investment to deliver them. You will help to build the economic information we use to make decisions by analysing and interpreting national and local data on key issues, including business, demographics, innovation, unemployment and education and skills performance to inform investment priorities. This role will include working collaboratively with all teams across the Combined Authority Group and with partner organisations in both the public and private sectors. During your time as an intern, you will learn about and support the above functions, as well as lead on your own piece of work. With assistance from the team, you will examine how we can build stronger intelligence on the challenges and opportunities faced by young people in Tees Valley, develop your understanding of these and make policy recommendations to address them so we retain and attract talent in the area.

Marketing & Communications

Our Marketing and Communications Team is looking for a social media‑savvy person to join the organisation. The successful candidate will join a fast‑paced team responsible for shouting about all the great things happening to transform the region's economy, plus developments at Teesside Airport, Teesworks and the Hartlepool and Middlesbrough Development Corporations. This will include working with our local media, potential investors and the general public. These include drafting press releases, social media posts, marketing brochures, websites, graphics and videos which are pushed out across various channels, and also at key industry and stakeholder events. During their time as an intern, the candidate will learn about and support the above functions, as well as lead on their own piece of work. With assistance from the team, they will examine how the Combined Authority Group can better use online developments – such as AI alongside modern social media platforms like TikTok, Snapchat and others – to better engage a younger audience. This could be by analysing the latest trends, arranging workshops with local young people or through surveys and other interventions – but we welcome any other original ideas from the successful candidate as to how this can be achieved.

Net Zero

Our Net Zero Team is seeking an environmentally and scientifically minded individual to join the organisation. The successful candidate will become part of the team working to create the world's first fully decarbonised industrial cluster in the Tees Valley by 2040, as well as supporting the work of the North East and Yorkshire Net Zero Hub. This will involve collaborating with our local industrial partners, local government, innovation organisations, and the wider community to address CO2 emissions in the Tees Valley and drive investment in new green projects and technologies. During their internship, the candidate will learn about industrial and other decarbonisation processes and the associated technologies, as well as how the Authority supports its partners in achieving their net zero goals and collaborates to bring major green projects to the Tees Valley. They will also gain an understanding of the work of the North East and Yorkshire Net Zero Hub and how it supports both central government and local partners in the drive for Net Zero.

Performance, Risk & Assurance

Join our Performance, Risk & Assurance (PRA) Internship and gain hands‑on experience in assurance and risk management while working at the heart of performance excellence, internal controls, and organisational effectiveness. You'll develop practical skills in data analysis, reporting, and compliance monitoring, while supporting real projects that enhance efficiency and audit readiness. Throughout the internship, you'll contribute to risk registers, assist with control reviews and assurance activities, and take part in audit preparation and evidence gathering. Collaborating with experienced professionals, you'll help identify risks and improve processes in a fast‑paced, high‑impact team environment. By the end of the programme, you'll present your findings and make a meaningful contribution to the organisation.

Procurement

Our Procurement Team is looking for a motivated intern to assist with a range of procurement activities across the Tees Valley Combined Authority Group. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in gaining hands‑on experience in procurement, purchasing, and supporting various projects within a fast‑paced environment. As an intern, you will provide essential support to the Procurement Team, helping with the coordination of procurement procedures for a variety of projects, including those related to Teesside International Airport, Adult Education, Creative Place, and the Teesworks site. You will assist with tasks such as preparing documents, scheduling meetings with internal teams and suppliers, and ensuring smooth communication throughout the procurement process. You will also support the team with managing contracts and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. Your role could involve liaising with suppliers, internal departments, and project managers to ensure that procurement processes align with the goals of TVCA, including social value initiatives and other strategic priorities. This internship will give you exposure to procurement strategies, market engagement, and regulatory compliance in a dynamic and evolving setting, while learning alongside experienced professionals in the field.

Transport

Our Transport Team is looking for an enthusiastic and organised person to join the organisation. The successful candidate will join a fast‑paced team responsible for developing and delivering a wide range of transport projects, which help us to progress towards delivering an integrated transport network, ensuring that everyone in Tees Valley is connected to a wide range of opportunities across the area. This work includes collaborating with key stakeholders, including Network Rail, the Local Authorities and others to deliver large multi‑million pound rail, bus, active travel, digital and electric vehicle infrastructure schemes, through to working with businesses, community groups and others to try to find solutions so that the transport barriers people experience are addressed. The role will work with a number of different parts of the Transport team to help us progress the development and delivery of our project portfolio. During their time as an intern, the candidate will learn about how TVCA develops and delivers projects and programmes and will lead on their own specific pieces of work that contribute to the delivery of The Tees Valley 2020 – 2030 Strategic Transport Plan objectives and help to shape part of the £1.3bn of investment in Tees Valley transport infrastructure over coming years.

Not only will we support you with a stepping stone into your future career, but we will also pay you the Real Living Wage, currently at £12.71 an hour, for your time here.
