We are recruiting for Head of Nursing for Integrated Surgical Services (ISSG). You should share our passion and drive to ensure that our patients receive quality and compassionate care and work with us to ensure the Health Board provides great quality of care for our patients.
The Head of Nursing for ISSG is a great opportunity for a senior nursing leader with relevant experience to consider. Our ISSG division consists General surgery, Vascular, ALAC, Surgical Admissions Unit, Head and Neck, Urology, Trauma and Orthopaedics and HSDU.

The ISSG Head of Nursing post sits within the ISSG division, and works within an MDT model. The Head of Nursing is part of the ISSG leadership triumphant.
The Head of Nursing is responsible for the leadership and management of nursing within ISSG. They have joint responsibility for the effective delivery of quality, financial and operational performance of the service line including ownership of key clinical quality performance targets and measures for the service.

This exciting position will be integral to ensuring continued safe and successful services within the ISSG division.
As the Head of Nursing, you will make a real difference to patient care and pathways. As a subject matter expert and specialist, you will provide visible professional leadership and demonstrate a strong commitment to support the team in the delivery of both the nursing and Health Board strategy.
You will support the teams in the transformation agenda in redesigning models of care and patient pathways to provide the best possible care and outcome for our patients.
Provide day to day operational management of nursing clinical services, liaising effectively with all internal and external stakeholders, ensuring that service planning and operational activity satisfy the requirements of governance.
On a day-to-day basis, you will have professional line management, supervision responsibilities and over sight of the wellbeing of Matrons, Clinical nurse Specialist

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Head of Nursing is professionally and managerially responsible and accountable for nursing care, standards, services and all matters
relating to professional regulation, the nursing workforce and care delivery environments across the Service Divisions for adult services.
In addition, will be the lead officer for Safeguarding and Infection Prevention and Control.
• The strategic development of the care and nursing services across the Service Divisions for adult services.
• Adherence to NMC Professional regulation and standards across the relevant Service Divisions.
• Ensuring safe and effective staffing levels in line with acuity needs across all areas of responsibility through regular workforce redesign
and establishment reviews.
• Ensuring all staff are registered, trained, competent and provided with adequate support and supervision across areas of responsibility.
• Providing high level visible nursing leadership and support the operational and performance management, patient flow, service quality,
service improvement, planning, resource use and modernisation for nursing and care areas across areas of responsibility.
• Clinically and managerially responsible and accountable for the leadership, direction and financial control of nursing and nursing
workforce within area of responsibility, contributing to and ensuring the delivery of strategic and operational service objectives set by
the Service Group and the Health Board.
• Within adult services is the lead for Quality and Safety, Risk Management, Healthcare Standards, PROMs and PREMS, ensuring the
Service Group’s compliance with Putting Things Right Regulations (2011), implementation of the Quality Strategy and the safe, efficient
and effective care, compatible with professional and national clinical standards.
• Ensuring a positive learning culture across Service Divisions.
• Responsible and accountable for the implementation of the Nursing and Midwifery Strategy across adult services and accountable to
the Group Nurse Director for the delivery and management of the nursing service across within area of responsibility.
• Required to work independently ensuring effective interpretation and implementation of national guidelines.
• Responsible for policy and service development for nursing within the adult services and will be responsible for the operational and
strategic planning of nursing within these services.
• Line manager for Deputy Heads of Nursing within the relevant Service Divisions for adult services.
• Service Groups Social Care & Well Being Act, Older Persons & Trusted to Care delivery plans, Safeguarding, MCA & DoLs and Child
Protection lead and Designated Lead Manager- accountable for full implementation of all related legislation, national guidance and
regulation and Health Board Policy.

• Service Groups Infection Prevention & Control and decontamination Lead, accountable for the delivery of Welsh Government, Health
Board and Infection Reduction targets and delivery of decontamination standards.
• Undertake expert analysis of highly complex and contentious problems and develop practical and workable solutions to address them,
thinking and planning strategically, tactically and creatively, and will prioritise work programmes in the face of competing demands.

Essential Qualifications and Knowledge

1. Appropriate registration with the NMC.
2. Educated to Master’s Level or equivalent qualification, knowledge and/or experience supplemented by highly specialist qualification.
3. Evidence of post registration qualifications Highly relevant specialist clinical knowledge relating to sphere of responsibilities.
4. Evidence of Continuous Professional Development.
5. Knowledge and experience of implementing clinical governance strategies and risk management.
6. Has a good understanding of research and can demonstrate how research has influenced their practice.

8. A demonstrable track record of achievement in a senior nursing management position within the NHS
9. Significant post registration experience at a very senior nursing level. Experience of financial management, budget setting, monitoring and determining corrective action.

11. Has evidence of multi-agency working on key service developments. Experience of dealing with highly complex issues in a large organisation.
12. Experience of being involved in research. Experience in workforce planning, development and skill mix reviews to promote succession planning.
