Job Title: Executive Chef Manager
A co-educational private prep school in Shrewsbury, catering for pupils aged 4 to 13, offering both day and boarding options for 250 students and staff. The school provides breakfast, lunch, and supper, with some hospitality services.
This is a 7-day operation with a working pattern of 5 days out of 7. Benefits include free on-site parking. Shift timings are between 07:00 and 19:00.
Role Overview
We are seeking a talented Executive Chef Manager to join our team at Ruyton-XI-Towns. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a fast-paced kitchen at Head Chef level, preferably within contract catering (B&I) or independent education sectors. You will be passionate about working with fresh, seasonal ingredients and creating bespoke menus that change regularly, showcasing your creativity daily.
Responsibilities
1. Operate, monitor, and control food production and service to ensure high standards according to Thomas Franks standards and client requirements.
2. Ensure adherence to Thomas Franks Fresh Food standards, utilizing local, sustainable, and in-season produce from approved suppliers.
3. Plan and devise menus based on nutritional value, current food styles, and customer expectations for daily service and special events.
4. Ensure prompt and high-quality service, restock and replenish stocks during service, and anticipate customer needs.
5. Maintain hygienic and clean production, storage, and service areas, complying with food safety and health & safety legislation.
6. Prepare food within exemplary hygiene and safety standards, ensuring staff adherence to procedures.
7. Communicate with front of house staff regarding food availability and delays.
8. Assist in menu planning, rotas, and placing orders.
9. Ensure kitchen operations comply with health & safety regulations.
10. Attend meetings and training as required.
General Responsibilities
1. Attend staff meetings and adhere to company policies and procedures.
2. Maintain a professional appearance and conduct.
3. Conduct necessary checks for food temperatures and safety.
4. Perform reasonable requests from management.
Person Specification
* Strong team working, listening skills, initiative, and excellent personal presentation.
* Food hygiene certification preferred.
* Reliable, honest, adaptable, and customer-focused.
* Willing to learn and take responsibility.
* Good verbal and written English skills.
* Experience in customer service or food preparation environments.
* Recognized cooking qualification (e.g., City & Guilds 706/1 & 2) and Level 3 Food Hygiene qualification.
