Assistant Educational Psychologist We saw that social care reform was coming, and we acted. We have a new opportunity for 3 Permanent Assistant Educational Psychologists at Southampton City Council (SCC) to join us in the Educational Psychology Service within the Education Team! We welcome applications from psychologists in order to help them on their journey to becoming an educational psychologist and considering applying for a doctoral course in the future. We are looking for skilled and successful Psychology graduates with a keen interest and knowledge of the Education system to join our friendly, dynamic and dedicated team. Recruitment is part of the Children’s Social Care (CSC) reforms, and the role will be in the Educational Psychology Service within the Education Team. As such the focus of the roles will be in supporting positive change and opportunities for families within Southampton City. About the role: Working under the guidance of a qualified Educational Psychologist (EP), you'll assist our team in a variety of ways. This includes delivering and evaluating training for schools, conducting research, and supporting projects that create positive change for children and young people. You'll also provide direct support to children through observations and non-statutory assessments. Our service applies psychological principles to help children and young people across Southampton. We work with school staff, parents, and other professionals to solve problems and offer training and research to those in educational settings. We have a successful service that delivers a wide range of non-statutory services to schools and organisations, providing you with opportunities to develop your skills and specialist interests. About the Team: Our team maintains good relationships with schools and settings and are also highly regarded within Southampton local authority and contribute to strategic developments within the city. We work closely with local CAMHS services and contribute to the development of Mental Health in Schools Teams as well as training for Education Mental Health Practitioners with Southampton University. We maintain very strong working relationships with our educational colleagues and work with a range of other professionals. This creates many varied opportunities and contexts within which our team work. Examples of the varied work we undertake are: Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) training and support, reflexive supervision to social care colleagues, contribute to services for Children who are Looked After, services to our Youth Justice colleagues, provide Critical Incident support for schools, contribute to the doctoral training programme for Educational Psychologists at Southampton University, work strategically to support children experiencing Emotionally Based School Attendance, Supervision to school staff, including DSLs, SENCos and Head teachers, Coaching for Senior Leaders in Schools, Various therapeutic interventions and training including Drawing and Talking, ACT, DNA – V, Storylinks and Therapeutic Story Writing, facilitate the development of Autism Champions in Southampton schools, Trauma Informed approaches and MELSA, Special interest groups and research opportunities. W hat we can offer you: Salary: The salary band for this role is £37,280 - £40,778. The starting salary is £37,280 with annual progression through the salary bands. Terms and conditions established by the Soulbury Committee through national negotiation are used as a reference point for overall pay and conditions for this group of employees. A Soulbury adjustment payment is made to post holders to achieve parity with the national rates.
