Assistant Headteacher
One-Year Fixed Term (Maternity Cover)Start Date: July 2026 | Location: North London | Salary: Leadership Scale (dependent on experience)
A specialist secondary school in North London is looking for an exceptional Assistant Headteacher to join its Senior Leadership Team for a one-year maternity cover. The school supports young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, offering a safe, structured and nurturing environment where pupils can regain confidence, build resilience, and achieve both academically and personally.
The Role
Working closely with the Headteacher, you will play a key role in shaping the school's direction and leading day-to-day operations. This hands-on position involves promoting high standards of teaching, learning, behaviour, and inclusion, while supporting staff and pupils with complex needs.
Responsibilities
* Support the Headteacher in school leadership and management
* Lead on curriculum, teaching standards, and pupil progress
* Champion behaviour and inclusion policies
* Line manage middle leaders and teaching staff, offering coaching and guidance
* Oversee safeguarding and pastoral systems
* Contribute to school improvement and staff development
* Build strong partnerships with parents and external agencies
Who We're Looking For
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
* Senior leadership experience, ideally in an SEMH or specialist setting
* Knowledge of behaviour management, trauma-informed practice, xsngvjr and inclusion
* Experience leading curriculum, assessment, and quality assurance
* Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills
* Commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
