Role Summary
Seeking to strengthen their Global Design & Product Experience team, Our Client is hiring a talented Design Modeller to pivotally support the creation of visual models and prototypes that define their cutting-edge products. This strategic appointment offers an exciting opportunity to impact the visual and functional aspects of future innovations, directly influencing product concepts from initial sketches through to polished physical models.
Key Responsibilities
Craft high-quality visual models and working prototypes, leveraging a range of fabrication techniques such as hand building, rapid prototyping, and spray finishing.
Operate manual workshop equipment, including band saws, disk sanders, and pillar drills, ensuring safety and precision.
Collaborate closely with design and research teams, transforming sketches, verbal briefs, and technical drawings into tangible models.
Maintain and enhance the aesthetic integrity of product representations, ensuring models meet 'best-in-class' quality standards.
Utilise physical models, rigs, renderings, and 2D prints alongside digital tools to accurately bring concepts to life.
Demonstrate autonomous working habits, managing multiple projects efficiently and with close attention to detail.
Provide practical, innovative ideas for overcoming design challenges, supporting the continuous evolution of product concepts.
Essential Skills & Experience
A degree in Model Making, Product Design (with relevant modules), or equivalent practical experience.
Proven track record in developing visual models and prototypes that meet precise specifications.
Proficiency with various CAD programmes to support model development.
Experience working alongside mechanical engineers to create models with moving elements.
Ability to work with design teams to incorporate interactive features like screens and LED lighting into models.
Skilled in operating manual workshop tools safely and accurately.
Exceptional attention to detail with a commitment to producing 'best-in-class' quality.
Strong communication skills, capable of clearly articulating ideas both verbally and visually.
Collaborative and receptive to constructive feedback, demonstrating diplomacy and team spirit.
Desirable Skills & Experience
Experience within a rapid prototyping environment or custom workshop settings.
Familiarity with additional digital fabrication techniques, such as 3D printing or laser cutting.
Knowledge of materials commonly used in product modelling, from engineering plastics to refined finishing materials.
Experience working on projects involving interactive or electronic components.
