Job Description

Are you an inspirational and collaborative leader? Are you keen to use your leadership skills to protect the organisation and our staff?

As Corporate Security Senior Advisor, you’ll be working in a small team responsible for providing assurance that we’re addressing our security risks and improving our security culture. You will be a role model for security, promoting a positive culture and cultivating good behaviours. You'll contribute to protecting the organisation from security threats that could affect our people, data, information, or physical assets.

In this role you will:

1. Help the Corporate Security Manager to oversee and mitigate security risks.
2. Provide leadership and direction on how we assess and manage security risks, including our retained security responsibilities.
3. Work with risk owners across the organisation to ensure risks are understood, assessed, and adequately mitigated.
4. Provide assurance to the Senior Responsible Officer (SRO) for security, EA Board, and Executive Directors.
5. Work in partnership with Defra group Security to ensure we have security strategies, policies, and processes in place.
6. Lead on delivering actions to improve our security culture, including through training, communications, and engagement.
7. Run governance meetings to oversee security decisions.
8. Maintain networks with security professionals to stay up to date with the latest context.

The wider team manages a diverse range of work. There is an expectation that you will become involved in work the whole team does, providing opportunities to gain a wide range of experience in key activities.

We are committed to having an inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We welcome flexible working patterns for all vacancies, including job-share. Please include any information about your preferred working arrangements in your application.

You will be part of a small, welcoming team within the Corporate Management, Assurance, and Security team, focused on protecting and empowering the organisation to function effectively and be resilient. You will have access to professional security advice within Defra group Security and collaborate with subject matter experts in the Environment Agency.

Experience/skills Required

The external security landscape is complex with evolving risks. While you do not need to be a security professional, you will need:

* An appreciation of wider influences on the security of the organisation to enable continuous improvement.
* Proven leadership skills to achieve outcomes, promote partnership, influence, and inspire others.
* Ability to build effective partnerships with Defra and Environment Agency colleagues to jointly manage risks.
* Experience working with senior stakeholders, managing multiple priorities, and balancing competing demands.
* Experience in inspiring cultural change, stakeholder management, leading communications and engagement, and implementing business change solutions is beneficial.
