Job overview

An excellent and exciting opportunity has arisen within our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and we are seeking dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated neonatal nurses to further their career in a Band 6 nursing post. This role is demanding at times however, it is so rewarding and worthwhile.

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is one of the Level 3 Centre’s within the Lancashire and South Cumbria Neonatal Network and part of the North West Neonatal Operational Delivery Network.

You will be highly motivated with excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills and have the ability to work independently as a lone worker and within a multi-disciplinary team setting.

Main duties of the job

To support the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse or Matron in ensuring the provision of excellent care
with compassion for the patients, relatives and visitors who are cared for within or by the ward,
department, service or team.
Be responsible for ensuring the planning, delivery and evaluation of care to meet the personalised
health and wellbeing care needs of patients, in line with the Trust’s Values & Nursing & Midwifery
Professional Framework
Provide strong leadership and direction to the team, monitoring and maintaining standards of care
and professional practice to support day to day efficient running of the clinical area, service.
Act as a strong role model and provide development, clinical supervision and advice for other staff
and students to support them in reaching their full potential. Actively engage in research and
development opportunities for the service.
To ensure the productive operation of the ward environment through the maintenance of a safe,
clean and organised environment.
To act at all times in a manner that upholds the Trust’s values and & Nursing & Midwifery
Professional Framework goals, working as part of a team to ensure that patients and
relatives receive Leadership Behaviour Clusters Overview excellent care with compassion

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Governance
The post holder will operate at all times to high standards of probity. This will include compliance with:
 Health and safety regulations
 All policies and procedures approved by the Trust
 Trust Standing Financial Instructions
 Working within the Data Protection act 1984, Health & Safety at work Act 1974, Maintain
confidentiality at all times, as required by legislation and Trust Policy
 Working to defined policies and procedures, actively implementing the development of the electronic
solution
 Work within the limitations of the role
 Professional codes of conduct including the NHS Managers Code of Conduct (where these apply)
 All policies and procedures related to infection prevention and control as relevant to their post
 To raise any concerns as soon as possible, as per whistle blowing policy, relating to any:-
 Healthcare matters, e.g. suspected negligence, mistreatment or abuse of patients; the quality of care provided
 Concerns about the professional or clinical practice or competence of staff
 The treatment of other staff, including suspected harassment, discrimination or victimisation
 Health, safety and environment issues
 Suspicion or knowledge of theft, fraud, corruption, bribery allegations or other financial malpractice
 Employment standards and/or working practices
 Criminal offences or miscarriages of justice
 Failure to comply with any other legal obligation
 Deliberate concealment of any of the above
Information Governance
 To be fully aware of and committed to all Policies, Procedures and Initiatives relating to Information
Governance - this will include, but not limited to, Data Quality improvements, Confidentiality and

Person specification

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria

1. Appropriate NMC Registration
2. Diploma or Degree in Nursing
3. NMC recognised Mentorship qualification
4. Evidence of continuing professional education or development in area of speciality

Desirable criteria

5. Degree
6. Post registration qualification in area of speciality area

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

7. Evidence of leadership experience and learning.
8. Awareness of recent advances within Nursing practice
9. Knowledge of Clinical Governance and safeguarding and the relevance to practice
10. Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
11. Experience of implementing changes to benefit patients and improve nursing practice
12. Knowledge of Ethical issues

Desirable criteria

13. Evidence of clinical competence in area of speciality eg surgery
14. Knowledge of Research and Development
