Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer – Job Description
Shift pattern: 4 on, 4 off – 2 x 12-hour day shifts (06:00–18:00) and 2 x 12-hour night shifts (18:00–06:00), followed by 4 days off.
A leading manufacturing organisation with strong values around safety, quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement is seeking a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join their expanding engineering team. This role is essential in ensuring safe, efficient, and uninterrupted production by responding quickly to equipment issues and supporting a robust planned preventive maintenance programme.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and ensure all documentation is completed accurately.
* Ensure statutory inspections are completed on schedule and remedial actions are logged and followed through.
* Identify and deliver improvement initiatives, contributing to ongoing continuous improvement activity.
* Respond to equipment breakdowns promptly, completing repairs to minimise downtime and conducting root cause analysis (RCA) to prevent recurrence.
* Maintain high housekeeping standards within a structured 5S environment.
* Liaise with external contractors and technical specialists when required.
* Follow all Health & Safety procedures and escalate any concerns appropriately.
* Work collaboratively with Engineering Supervisors and Production Shift Managers.
* Take ownership when needed, communicating effectively and demonstrating initiative.
* Support wider departmental and senior management requirements when necessary.
Core Competencies for a Multi-Skilled Engineer
* Mechanical & Electrical Fault-Finding: Ability to diagnose issues across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
* Preventative Maintenance Expertise: Strong understanding of PPM schedules, reliability engineering, and asset care.
* Root Cause Analysis: Skilled in investigating faults, identifying long-term solutions, and preventing repeat failures.
* Safety Focused: Comprehensive knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and safe working practices.
* Continuous Improvement Mindset: Experience in Lean, 5S, CI projects, and equipment optimisation.
* Technical Proficiency: Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documents.
* Communication & Teamwork: Clear communicator with the ability to work effectively across departments.
* Initiative & Ownership: Proactive in identifying issues early, taking responsibility, and driving improvements.
* Adaptability: Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment.
