Join the Monitoring Data & Systems Team (MDS) at the Environment Agency. We manage important environmental monitoring systems and datasets, supporting a wide range of internal and external customers and stakeholders.
The team you will join is the Monitoring Data & Systems Team (MDS). We manage important Environmental Monitoring systems and datasets. You’ll join a multi‑disciplinary team, supporting and learning from colleagues while analysing and improving the data that underpins our work.
The Technical Advisor helps manage these systems and data and provides support to users. You will fulfil a multi‑purpose role, working on our Water Quality systems and data, but will be expected to support other systems and data as needed. You will work closely with team members and can expect to be involved in any of the following:
Key Responsibilities
* Set up and manage users
* Support users and resolve issues, especially during transition to the My Environment application
* Update, improve and maintain datasets
* Respond to internal and external data requests
* Support system improvement and upgrade projects

Experience & Skills
* Experience working with large complex datasets
* Willingness to develop new technical skills and apply them across monitoring data and systems
* Motivated, organised, friendly, helpful and detail‑oriented
* Proactive and enjoys solving problems
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to convey complex technical information to technical and non‑technical audiences
* Ability to build and maintain strong relationships, deliver through others and provide excellent customer service
* Experience of using and managing environmental monitoring data systems
* Experience of PowerBI, Access, Excel, Python, SharePoint Online and R
* Working knowledge of water quality monitoring
Location & Working Arrangements
Work location is flexible with a base at one of our offices across England and hybrid home/office working. Some travel is expected for meetings.
Interview Process
We will hold interviews via MS Teams towards the end of December / beginning of January. We’ll confirm interview dates with candidates invited to interview.
