Job Description
We are recruiting a fixed‑term Energy Advisor, up to 2 years, to support the Environment Agency’s strategy to deliver Net Zero. The role will focus on regulating and improving the energy sectors (combustion plants, waste incineration, refineries) to reduce emissions, protect the environment and ensure rapid decarbonisation.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert support, technical leadership and training on energy sector regulation.
* Develop sector strategy, deliver regulatory tools and support environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects as required.
* Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, trade associations and industry partners.
* Participate in incident response and business continuity activities.
Qualifications
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge of the energy sector, including combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries.
* Experience of working in or regulating energy‐related processes and knowledge of control measures for air emissions.
* Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work cooperatively with colleagues, operators and partner regulators.
* Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with external and internal stakeholders.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

* Demonstrate experience of working with a range of stakeholders – government officials, trade associations, academic bodies and operational teams.
