An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a full time Accountancy Assistant within the Place & Corporate team in Newport City Council. Reporting to a Lead Finance Business partner, this post will play a key role in providing financial assistance to the Place & Corporate Accountancy Team and Budget Managers that covers the following diverse and interesting service areas: Housing, Infrastructure, Environment/Public protection, Regeneration, People/Policy & Transformation, Financial services and Law/Standards.
We are looking for applicants who are currently studying for or have attained foundation level AAT (or equivalent). The post provides genuine significant scope to further develop your career, both professionally and personally.
Responsibilities
* Assist with budget preparation, monthly budgetary control reports and some final accounts preparation.
* Possess good communication skills and be able to communicate financial information to non‑finance managers.
* Demonstrate an aptitude for IT skills, with enhanced spreadsheet and/or database knowledge.
* Be able to prioritise demanding workloads to meet tight deadlines.
* Develop a sound knowledge of Local Government finance.
Equally important will be enthusiasm and a desire to enhance financial decision‑making in a particularly challenging area of the Authority's work.
