Job Description
Our client is the leading owner of one of the most exciting rail projects in Europe. They are looking for a System Safety Engineer to join an expanding team during a critical phase of the project. This is a long-term permanent role focused on ensuring safety during construction and operation.
About the role:
* Responsible for ensuring compliance with the Railways (Interoperability) Regulations and CSM-RA for Phase One projects.
* Manage risk assessments across specific disciplines, including planning, conducting, and documenting risk workshops.
* Develop safety reports to justify and communicate assessment results internally and to independent bodies.
* Support the project-wide Hazard Record, analyzing hazards and evidence to meet CSM-RA requirements.
* Manage interfaces with the Asset Safety Bodies (AsBo/NoBo), assist contractors during assessments, and facilitate evidence flow for compliance demonstration.
* Contribute to strategic plans such as the Authorisation Plan and governance documents like papers for the System Review Panel.
Knowledge:
* Understanding of CSM-RA or similar safety regulation frameworks.
* Knowledge of hazard identification, analysis techniques, and hazard management through hazard records.
* Experience with HAZOP, Fault Tree, and Event Tree analyses in railway or similar environments.
* Familiarity with engineering safety management and relevant EU and UK laws.
Experience:
* Proven experience in engineering safety management within regulated environments.
* Experience working on major rail infrastructure projects or consultancy delivering safety assessments.
* Demonstrated ability to produce safety evidence in safety-critical sectors such as aviation, maritime, oil/gas, nuclear, or military.
Complexity:
* Managing large supply chains and ensuring safe integration of the railway.
* Interfacing with various organizational units, including rolling stock, maintenance, operations, and third parties like NR and TfL.
* Producing and reviewing hazard records and risk assessments, identifying non-compliances with CSM-RA.
This hybrid role is based in London or Birmingham, requiring two days per week onsite.
