Overview
The ELHT OMFS H&N team is appointing a Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial H&N Surgeon with an interest in Head and Neck cancer ablation and reconstruction, and TMJ. The successful candidate will join a vibrant, diverse, and motivated team of clinicians with national/international reputation and an established practice based on quality of outcomes. The local demand for OMFS H&N surgery makes the unit one of the busiest in the Northwest. The successful candidate will be a core member of the dedicated weekly Lancashire & South Cumbria H&N MDT which covers a population of over 2.5M patients.
Responsibilities
* Appoint a Consultant with a special interest in Head and Neck and TMJ to support the delivery of cancer service across Head and Neck.
* Provide general Oral & Maxillofacial services to the Trust and develop other mutually acceptable interests with the department.
* Undertake clinical commitments across Royal Blackburn and Burnley General Hospital.
* Take part in the consultant on-call rota and develop a subspecialty interest to complement existing consultants.
* Agree a proposed job plan with the Consultant within 3 months of commencement.
* Collaborate with the University of Central Lancashire and participate in national/international committees, research publications, invited lectures, and clinical trials.
* Participate in education, research, innovation, and development of novel services for patient benefit.
About us
The ELHT OMFS H&N service covers Bolton, Burnley, and Blackburn, serving approximately 1 million people. Outpatient clinics and Day Case surgery are carried out at all three hospital sites. All inpatient work, including major H&N surgery, is performed at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital, with support from a dedicated surgical ICU. The service maintains a high-quality H&N cancer pathway and collaborates closely with the ENT H&N team in ELHT.
Requirements
Essential
* Full registration with GMC & GDC
* CCST or equivalent / Fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (FRCS OMFS)
* Research experience
* MBChB or equivalent, BDS or equivalent
* Recognised as medical educator
* Trained Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon
* Leadership qualification and ability to work in teams
* Resident within 10 miles / 30 minutes of Royal Blackburn Hospital
Desirable
* Surgical prizes; Master’s/MD/PhD; formal teaching qualification
* Post-CCT Fellowship in Head and Neck Surgery
* Evidence of subspecialist interest in Head & Neck Surgery
* Evidence of teaching experience
* Ability to travel to all units within the network and attend out of hours to see emergency patients
